Is a 600w mh overkill for vegetable? How far away should I have my vegetables from my 600w?

Depends on light height and if you can control the temperatures from the heat. Example I have a 400 watt hps/mh and I can get away with having it on 50% power in my particular closet I use for growing, but if I turn it to full power I need to add fans and keep the door opened when the lights are on to get rid of the heat.

Actual vegetables or vegetative canabis? How big is the grow area? Given the cost of electricity, seems like you could buy organic at Whole Foods and save money :)

The Sun measures about 110,000 Lux on a nice bright sunny day.

You would literally have to "sit" your light on top of the plant to get that Lux.

600w is just fine...

It costs me $0.77 a day or $23 a month to run a 600 watt HID. You can get maybe a couple heads of lettuce at Whole Paycheck for that. :bigjoint:

My cost on my 600w hlg qb plus my 600w hid for a year is about 400 bucks. Growing 200$ of produce in a year shouldn't be a problem. Even for the benefit of a early start to my season.
