over the years I've had some plants produced a few seeds but I have never seen any bananas or any male pods

Some have been as little of 4 or 5 seeds, and others have been as many as 30 seeds.

My current grow is from a Jack Herer than produce about 30 seeds....I previously grew 5 of these seeds to which only one produce a dozen seeds

So I'm really not sure if it's genetics or my environment....but it doesn't bother me to get a few free seeds

Whats inside of them?
At this point the male flower is harmless and it has the same resin as the rest of the plant most times you will find a cluster of seeds at the base of the flower and they are generally immature. Some people say they taste difference but I can't tell.

One thing I do know is that if you try and grow a hermie seed it will most likely turn out to be a hermie also. Last grow I had to try again and the score was 3 out of 3. Anyways it will still make great oil.

So I do not need to worry about pollen? I am asking because she (or he) is still in quarantine and hopefully ripes. You said you have already harvested. That plant was weird from its very beggining, problem is I have not found anything which I could call male flowers. Yeah when this popped up it looked like a sac thats the reason I have pulled her out of room and literaly pushed her into 60x60. But later on it seems to be just bunches of calyxes growing on place where pre-flowers ussually apper. Reason why I decided to keep her is, that the smell is something amazing and being also on the last seed run in hope hunting myself some nice pheno. Yield gonna be ridiculous, so probably not the keeper.

You may have missed seeing the balls or it just by-passed that stage (highly unlikely) by the time you see the male flower the pollen has already been distributed. I've seen new pollen balls even at the time of harvest, so I wouldn't put her back in the general population.

Hermies are tough to nail down. Weak genetics, disturbances in light cycle, poor environment or some combination of any of them are contributing factors.
Mostly, it's about you choosing solid genetics and providing a stable environment that prevents hermies. Kelp extract sprays, removing leaves, airflow adjustments, etc. are just a panacea for your fears.
I think you're suffering from weak genetics, with the info provided and all things being equal.
Well said and I think Ur correct. I had another grower friend of mine come over and he couldn't believe how much time I was spending in the room and how closely I was Monitoring all of them. He said, man I just Set it and forget it, come back in a month and chop the fuckers down and head straight to the bank. I thought To myself, shit I wish It was that easy. The reason I soend So much time is because I've learned I have To be vigilant about finding hermies. I've gotten good too, I can See where they're gonna be before they're there but fuck that. I'm tired of having to be so vigilant. Then I sat Back and contemplated where all of my genetics have come from, almost all of them have come from the same place. Translation- Fuck them. New genetics it is...

What are you talking about? I've been growing for decades and the only hermaphroditic plants I've ever had were from landraces.

There may be people with plants that develop into hermaphrodites but the majority of that is going to be caused by something in the growers control and it's not prevalent among growers that know how to grow. If there becoming more prevalent it's because there are more growers and many of the newer growers are causing hermaphroditism by stressing their plants in some way. Overfeeding stresses a plant and with all these nutrient lines with a dozen bottles and feed charts that sometimes have growers feeding 3.0 ec it's a pretty common stress factor that is caused by the grower.

There are definitely genetics people are growing that are more prone to hermaphroditism but you make it sound like it's some big issue everyone is dealing with. I don't think it is.

To preemptively use some crap like optic foliar switch is ridiculous. Most growers don't get hermies so why would they spray that junk on their plants. If you're having so many issues with hermies you would be better off figuring out what you're doing to cause it and fix it instead of reaching for another product in a bottle.

Yes there is crap out there but I've never had any issues with herms. I primarily grow landraces, IBL's, stuff from European outfits, or my own stuff. I have noticed that with the explosion of these US pollen chuckers and their so called designer strains people wait for anxiously to "Drop" that it does appear to be an increase in issues with genetics.

Also, the term "Breeder" is used much too often. Many of these people are not breeding anything. They're just crossing strains and making seeds. Making F1's is not breeding and is something anyone can do which is why I find it odd that so many people pay over and over again for seeds.
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate you taking as much time as you did. Im also happy you said hermies aren't a common issue like they've been for me. Thank god. As far as my environment goes, I havebt Been able to identify any stresses. My rooms are so dark when the lights are off that sitting in there for an extended period of time makes you start to see things. I suppose That's kind of fun but seriously, I haven't found any stresses thus far. My EC stays between 1.6 and 2.4 so I don't think it's nutrient stress. If you have any seeds or well known breeders that you have 1st-hand experience with, that would be great. Thanks again for your response.

Where are you getting your genetics? I'm a big fan of ACE genetics. They actually breed and don't just chuck pollen. They don't have any of the latest hype strains but focus more on sativas and landrace strains. Their offerings won't appeal to everyone and you won't find anything with cookies, gorilla, or cake in the names of their strains.

I've got 1 phoenix OG Kush and 2 barney's farm pineapple chunks all my seeds are purchased from THE VAULT but I will look at the ACE genetics I don't so much care about fancy strains as long as they have decent thc levels and taste nice
