HLG 260W vs KindLED K3L600

Hi there, through friends I have the ability to buy a:
KindLED K3-L600 for $380 CAD (it's the previous generation from the new K3-XL but it seems basically the same from what I can see)
or
HLG-260W 3000K + rspec for $300 CAD (edit: I'm not conviced it's not a knockoff but I'll check before I buy it)

These both seems like good prices. Does anyone have any opinions? Are the new QBs so good that KindLED lights are 'bad' now? or is KindLED still awesome and it being and old generation isn't a big deal?

Maybe I'll just buy both :|

It's for a 2x4 tent (planend purchase, currently I own nothing). I'm more in it for the deal though :P

So good point re:knockoff HLG (I put an edit in the OP about it).
I suspect it's a kingbrite, he thinks it's legit but got it 2nd hand. I would check before I bought it if it's a real QB288 V2 Rspec
I just looked on Alibaba and kingbrite is $180CAD for a new lamp, so I would just get that if it didn't have the HLG markings.

I know people don't like blurple but I figured the KindLEDs weren't in the catagory of cheap amazon blurples

Don’t forget shipping for the alibaba light cost. If it is a true hlg or not I’d prolly go with that. Real HLG boards say horticultural lighting group on them, and the color temp. I’m not sure if the kingbrite boards say horticultural lighting group

Oh wow, going into this I thought people were going to be very pro-KindLED seeing as they are insanely expensive when bought new.

huh. A different yet similar question. Is the 380$CAD K3-L600 so cheap it's stupid not to buy it? Or kind and blurple is so bad I should run the other way?

Stay away from blurples get a chinese board if that's all you can afford. Check out the chinese knockoff thread on here.

Regarding blurples I wouldn't buy one, but I have done side by sides. Same grow room same strain same nutes, the blurple was a viparspectra, also had a mars hydro blurple with more white leds than the average purple you see. On the other side of a divider was 3500k samsung strips. Blurples vegged just as good if not better than the white strips. Flowering the strips outperformed giving consistent bud size. Blurples had some larger than usual buds directly under but anything out of directly under the light (And I mean directly under, 5 inches no further) produced small nugs and fluff.
In your shoes I would buy the hlg, genuine or not. $1 per genuine watt isnt shabby

Message received. I'll get the QBs (and if they aren't legit ill buy some new ones from Kingbrite)
While I'm in here I'll mention two related things:
  1. I saw spectrum kings SK400 120° units on Kijiji in Ontario for $600CAD/unit. I didn't want them because my area is way to small for that behemoth. Also QBs are sweet.
  2. What's up with quantum bars / LED strips (e.g. quantum boards but long and skinny). The cost per watt is higher. I guess they are more spread out so the penetration and coverage is better. Is that why there's a premium?

Well if you imagine there is more material and extrusion, cabling and board space involved in the strips, hence their cost. Their performance is equally weighted with the price.
In my experience the strips outperform the qb boards to the upset of all the qb fans out there is simply the truth. Strips allow light to penetrate the plants from all directions with equal intensity, whereas a qb board is basically a hps alternative the light source comes from a single spot, albeit it is wider than a bulb and better spread. It creates hotspots in the middle and the outer edges lose intensity, something you wont find on the light bars/spider frames.

Oh neat. That's a whole different direction as well! I'll setup a 2x4' tent so I guess a bar would be overkill for me.

Another question while I'm here since I'm going down this rabit hole of full spectrum lighting. Chinese amazon blurples are bad.
What about name-less amazon full spectrum lighting? Someone is offering me $100CAD for each of these Aponuo light. While I understand chinese blurples are bad, I don't know if generic full spectrum lighting is also bad.

Bands no longer exist so there isn't much to screw up as long as they don't break.
