my mothers will only be under fluorescents with cool white and warm white bulbs. The reason i ask is because i have not got my vegitative light room setup, and i need to know how many lights i will be needing to keep a 40-50 plant room growing every 2 months.
I cant remember what the post name was but theres a guy who had 50 plants in his garage have a gander an ask

I have used the MH with a couple different strains, and the same strains were also done with the conversion. I did notice a difference, but, those bulbs are expensive...mine ran me a little over $100.00. Put it this way, if this conversion bulb I have now breaks, it won't be getting replaced anytime soon since I know the mh will do fine they just won't be as dense....but really who cares as long as it is good smoke.

thanks for clarifying.... this was my general attitude also, just without the firsthand experience... replacement mh bulb- $20.. i suppose i could always throw in the 250watter to help beef it up, or throw a couple extra plants in.....

more plants more charge... id go with fewer and larger also...^^
BINGO!!! Thats whats keeping me doing what I am rather than SOG or SCROG

im doing 10 under (4) 400 watters.
I grow 20 plants under 1200w (2x600w HPS).

I have 18 under 2000watts (5) 400w lights, MH right now, but will switch over to HPS next week when I go 12/12. Bagel and Rolla, how tall are you letting them get? Do you use additional side lighting? How much are you expecting per plant yield wise? Mine are all in a space thats 8x8x8. For some reason, I feel that thats packed too tight. I have no basis for that, I just do. Do you all get enough light under the canopy for decent bud development? Should I thin out the crop, and go with fewer spaced further apart?
I'm letting things go the way they want right now, but am willing to make adjustments if necessary. I'll sacrifice the smallest to give the biggest some room if they need it. If I can bring 12 to harvest out of 18, and get a 1/2 lb per, I'll be ecstatic!!

no way brother! you have PLENTY of space. trust me, plants dont mind be elbow to elbow. you have enough space for at least 40 plant IMO. my space is only half of yours (4x8 and i have enough room for at least 10 to 15 more plants. someone even told me i have enough room for 40 plants! but i think that would be too crowded...i dont use any side lighting, and i let them veg till they were 24 inches. yea dude, definitly keep all of your plants if you want the biggest yield. and if you want some guess to what you will yeild, then multiply .5 by how many watts you flower with. so for you, you will yield about 1000 grams. most people indoors yield a half gram per watt, maybe 1 gram per watt if everything is perfect and you have a very green thumb. not to be rude or anything, but there is no way you will yield 8 ounces per plant indoors (unless you get 5 more lights). most people get anywhere between 1-3 O's. if you get 4-6, you are very good at what you do, and if you get over 7 then your thumb must be made out of pot.

I veg my plants for 6 weeks on a 24/0 light schedule, allowing them to grow to a height of about a foot and a half. I use reflective Mylar around the plants to reflect light on the sides and under the canopy, and don't use any additional side lighting. I expect to yield about 2oz per plant. I always have very short spaces between nodes, usually no more than 1"-2", producing a very dense, bushy plant. My grow-room is expandable which allows me to have a small, tight area when the plants are young, and expand the grow area to accommodate them as they grow. As the plants get bigger, they take up more floor space as the canopy expands. I like to keep an inch or two between plants so that the leaves from one plant never overlap with another, and the expanding room allows me to do that. I also use LST to ensure that the lower branches and nodes get ample light.

Last grow I did 22 plants under one 1000w and one 600w. Next run starts Friday with 40 clones under two 1000 watters. Not sure why I chose this certain number of clones to go with, I guess it just seemed like that was the right number for the size of my room (about 7' x 10.5')

I currently have 24 seedlings under two 4ft, 4-bulb, 54w HO T5 fluorescents . When they are 14-16" tall I will take 48 cuttings from my various 24 plants before placing them under two 600W HPS lights to flower. When the 48 cuttings have rooted and grown into 14-16 plants themselves under the T5s the previous batch of 24 will be ready to harvest, and I will put the new batch of 48 into the flower room, but this time use FOUR 600W HPS (12 plants per light).

Here are my HIDs: High Tech Garden Supply (Upgrade to Euro reflector and Sunmaster bulb, growbright sucks).

Here are my T5s: http://www.thegrowstore.com/detail.asp?itemnumber=2746

Good luck!

Hey THseaman... I've got two of those 600w digital systems from HTG and I love 'em. How do you like them? Which bulb and reflector are you using?

For the price and customer service I get from HTG, I like them. The products themselves are kind of on the cheap, made in china side of the spectrum to be totally honest. I upgraded to the Euro reflector and the Sunmaster bulb. I would never use anything from that super cheap "growbright" line HTG sells. I found another place where I can get 600w lumatek digital ballasts, 600w HPS Eye Hortilux bulbs and Hydrofarm Xtrasun AC reflectors for only $100 more per system than the 600w HTG systems. When I expand to 48 plants/4 lights, the two new lighting systems will be the lumatek/hortilux/hydrofarm systems.

How many sets of 4ft, 4-bulbs do you have to take care of the 48 seedlings, and how many to take care of the mothers? 1 set of 4, 4ft for each group?

How many mother plants do you have to be able to take 40 clones every 2-3 months? How tall do you keep your mothers?

I won't have mothers. I take cuttings from my vegging plants just before I put them into the flower room. It takes 2 sets of 4ft/4bulb fluorescents for 48 clones/seedlings in foam cups. How many lights you need for your mothers depends on how much space they take up. If using standard 1-2gallon buckets I'd say 4 mothers per light set.

Is that really as far as you like to push it?

Isn't 2000 watts a bit too much for only 12 plants?

I would grow like 50 plants if I had that setup!
I veg them until about they are about 3 1/2 feet and they are in 4 gallon pots so there is not much room for many more in my 8x10 room
