Just set up my first automatic watering system in coco drain to waist but i am wondering how often should you clean your tank and do you guys add any h202 or beneficial bacteria? My reservoir is smelling like sulphur and its only been in use for a few days now and i sanatized everything. I have 2 air stones 4" in a 30 gal tank only filling it 15 to 20 gals at a time using general hydroponic nutrient line. Btw temp stays in high 60s 68 avg

I have 3 res. One is actually inside one of the tents and it's a clear bucket... in that one I use peroxide to stop algae. That one is actually rockwool dtw. It's a small one so I rinse it out once a week.

In the other 2 are both 100ltr. I haven't cleaned them this run. I will completely scrub them out at the end of the run of ~10 weeks.

Ps... dont add peroxide with beneficial coz it will kill them... it's one or the other.

In coco I would add white shark or similar to the coco not the rez

Get rid of the air stones... or only run them for an hour before feeding.

never EVER EVER EVER EVER use clear plastic for a container/reservoir. You don't fight algae with h2o2. You get a blacked out tote that's LIGHT TIGHT and that way everything stays fresh. Get rid of your clear reservoir immediately
Why? It's working fine.

Because that's absolutely counter productive and the 100% straight up WRONG WAY to do it, man. Your reservoir water should literally never see the light of day. Unless you're just opening the lid to do something with it.

Still not giving me a reason dude. I get it's not ideal... but it's working fine ph is stable...nothing growing in there and the temp is perfect... dont want to buy another heater.

a darker res would be better. mine is dark green and light proof. that blue with a white lid isn't helping.

i do dtw and i don't add any bennies or sterile to my feed reservoir. just a waterfall.

LOL. i was gonna tag you in my reply to the OP. a white lid? nope. and that blue probalby isnt' light proof enough either.
BLACK is the only truly acceptable way to go if you want actual light proofing.
This guy gets on here asking for advice, then says "Fuck your advice, it's working just fine".

so you are using peroxide to stop an algae problem that is caused by light exposure b/c of the clear bucket?

you ever see a dog chasing it's tail?
I needed a temporary rez... and I used what I had. It cant be outside coz it's too cold.

Cant believe you're "ughing" me off man. Cant give a reason!? It's worked for 7 weeks.

I get it's not ideal... but other than algae.... what's the actual problem here? Light somehow changing the consistency of the nutes? I'm only asking coz I want to know... and coz it seems fine atm
Because algae growing in your nutes, is NOT what you want. It's causing organic matter to build inside there and ultimately will lead to rot. I bet your water temps are above 75°F too.

No algae... peroxide and the tank goes in 6 days and gets cleaned and changed. It's about 20c which I think is about 68. They seem ok.

Maybe I'll get some panda and cover it

nice plants you got but rot will kill those just as fast as not nice plants.

So essentially it's worked so far because you've been lucky. Eventually it'll lead to fun stuff like root rot too. Itll get out of control and wreck your plants.
You're purposely leaving an easily fixed glaring flaw in design that nearly all of us have experienced some ill effect from. I had transparent blue tubing on my system and halfway through my first grow it wasnt transparent anymore. I got rot and almost lost everything.
I leave a beach towel over my external barrel because the top ring where the top is cut get all kinda slimy and gross just from the basement lights.
