Humidity level in a tray with a 7 inch humidity ,

After a while , this idea keeps rattling around in my brain through observation and mental elbow grease .

The search engine said . keep humidity between 40 % and 60 % .

Then I asked the search engine about what the best humidity is for seedlings to develop roots quicker .

I finally got the answer I was looking for .

The search engine said that when seedlings are young and have small roots , the plant absorbs water through it's leafs .

So now I am coming to believe that keeping the seedlings at the low recommended level at 40% .

Seems to me by keeping the humidity at the lowest recommended level of 40% percent , it will force the roots to grow in order for the seedling to survive because it needs water .

This seems logical because I use to mist my seedlings all the time and the roots didn't grow much at all . The water just absorbed through the leafs and did not need the roots to get water from , so the roots just sat there doing nothing .

Now that I have a tall humidity dome and I got a humidity and temperature gauge , I can keep the humidity at 40 % for a while and see if my belief works .

I will come back to this thread later and report on root growth progress .

P.S. I just read on internet that I have to consider respiration . Given that I want 40 % humidity for this experiment I am doing to speed up root growth , I am going to need moving air over the stomatas of the plant or plant wont be able to draw up water from the roots . So I got a oscillating fan and added a few very small cups with a little water in them , because I have my ventilator slots of my humidity dome open all of the way . And since the humidity in this garden room is lower than 40 percent , I add the little cups of water so that it will be easier to prevent the humidity in the dome from dropping below 40 % .

I guess after a while of using a seedling tray with a tall humidity dome , it becomes apparent that this growing environment is simply a minature greenhouse . So then it is more complicated than a cheap Cigar Humidoor .

P.S.S. I also bought a $10 digital scale so I can weigh the peat moss containter and keep records on the weight of the seedling before and after adding water to the growing medium in the peat pot with the seedling total weight .
