I know you’re in there (hunt for a mother plant)

But where? I’m trying to find out.

what is the best way to expeditiously work through this process? I have several seedlings started. I have always just grown from seed to flower. My plan now is to find a suitable mother plant with my desired traits. Here goes,

1) how soon can I cut a clone? I don’t want to stunt the potential mother plant by cutting too early and I also don’t want to waste time by letting it grow more than needed.

2) how should I store potential mothers while the clones are growing? Should I provide limited light and nutes to keep growth at a minimum or should I just grow them all to their full potential?

3) should I put the clones straight to flower? I’m torn between straight to flower and or waiting a bit and observing vegetative growth.

Many growers run clone from clone
Before you look for a mother you need to grow out several pheno 's at least twice before wasting effort on a mother plant
How can you choose a mother plant when its nature is unknown?

Understood. So mother to clone and then clone from the clone? I was under the impression that the further from the seed you were, the less desire and results you would get.

Thats what is known as Broscience

I've run clone to clone for a decade anytime I think it is necessary I will mother one up until fat and healthy then back to clone to clone

I have done a bit of research on this subject and it appears that you’re absolutely correct. How about time frame to flower clones and 2nd clones?

It is strain related
I usually make cuts and once well rooted you can go straight to flower or veg em into bigger plants

I am usually clipping for a two month in advance window

I usually veg an initial grouping of plants and then take 2-3 clones off each of them then I flower plants I've taken clones from and will either keep or cull the clones I took as mothers depending on the results of flower. It's a.long process but it stops you from wasting whole grows on bad seed phenos

I pop the seeds and clone off each plant about 4 to 6 weeks later. Label EVERYTHING.
As i cull the seed run i cull its clone.
What's left after a smoke I run again (Usually 2 phenos).
Then I pick one to run again and maybe once more and then go back to popping seeds looking again.

What are current thoughts on taking the seed plants all the way through harvest, and revegetating the winner? Has been years since I've been on this forum.

I have done this in years past. Always worked well for me. It is some stress though im sure. Unsure if it hurts anything in the long run. But is the same as a clone flowering as a result of being placed outdoors too early in spring and having to revert back to veg.
