  • The SQDC has just introduced its first one-ounce product with less plastic packaging.
  • An MTL Blog writer tested out the "Original Stash" and here's their analysis.
  • Visit MTLBlog for more headlines.
This week, the SQDC and HEXO Corp. announced the release of a new one-ounce product with less packaging than ever before. HEXO's latest creation, "Original Stash", hit SQDC shelves yesterday, just in time for the anniversary of legalization.
"Original Stash" has 12% to 18% THC and sells for only $4.49/gram, making it the lowest priced cannabis product on both the legal and illegal market. It might sound too good to be true, but HEXO's "Original Stash" sells for only $125.70/ounce.
Conducting my very own and highly unofficial survey, I discovered that on average, people pay between $160-$180/ounce on the black market. That has a potential of over $50 in savings and in this economy, savings are crucial.
According to HEXO's CEO Sebastien St-Louis, "Original Stash" intends to "compete directly with the illicit market and will provide consumers with an affordable, controlled, quality product."
Black market dealers take note - after a year of legalization, the government has finally figured out how to sell weed. Now might be the time to take that business class, my friend.
So, to celebrate legalization day, I decided to try out "Original Stash" and give you my honest opinion. Shout out to my roommate David for braving the lines and coming through with the bag.

Before I pour into this, here's some context about your kindly reviewer. I've been an (almost) daily smoker for about 8 years. I enjoy smoking in the evening more than in the daytime. Typically, I skew towards a Sativa with stronger THC content due to my high tolerance.
With all that in mind, here's what's up with HEXO Corp.'s "Original Stash."
The Packaging

The first thing you'll notice about "Original Stash" is its sleek black packaging. A step up from your dealer's dollar store zip lock bags, the packing is triple-lined plastic and is totally smell-proof. Along with the requisite safety disclaimer, there's not much else to it other than the branding.
I've tried many SQDC products and honestly, if they had this kind of simple packaging for all of their products, they'd cut down on so much waste. We're also still waiting for that plastic container deposit, SQDC... Any day now, please.
Be warned, there's a little trick to opening these bags. A child safety tab on the back of the bag must be held onto before you can open the zip lock or else you'll rip the lining and ruin the bag (which almost happened to me).
Despite that, I'm giving this packaging 5 Cheeches out of 5 Chongs.

$100/oz here all day long direct from growers with 20-25%+ thc Growers themselves will do fine with $700/lb The independent gray marker dealers can sell it for $90/oz and still make $47 profit per oz.

Of course the review didn't include clear macro snapshots of any trichome glands (much less the results of an extensive laboratory analysis)...

M'well, i can only imagine why! :hump:

TL;DR

I'm giving the buds 3.5 out of 5 Willie Nelsons.

one point for the weedy aftertaste and lingering odour so 4 out of 5 Joe Rogans.

"Original Stash" comes out to just over 4.1 out of 5 "whoa, dudes."

Its a hybrid flowers blend. Does that mean they just "all in'ed" everything they grew...? and the stash is what they" originally"grew but could not sell.
so now its out the back door at 4.49 a gram plus tax.....to help reduce the black market.......lol
What they don't realize is the BM has plenty of room to reduce prices which have been consistent for decades.....and head to head competition by LP's will only see the LP's fail, because there is always 1 BM guy who is willing to sell for a smaller margin...than the next guy.....
It will boil down to overheads..

Salutations Cannadan,

That comment makes plenty of sense, but then i still wonder: how many billion$ were spent over "enforcement" and "treatment" during the very 1st year. For example in the small city of Trois-Rivières alone (~150K citizens) Trudeau's "Légaleezation" justified hiring 4 full-time police agents with 1 devoted to school propaganda (and possibly more...), 2 for investigations and a last 1 for secretary work i think. Only a few months later 4 snow vehicules were acquired and i vaguely recall more recently some "psy" doctor even joined this little army besides RCMP's drones and whatnot! Such spending orgy alone would certainly help to drop the final indirect cost even further should legalization be made to really translate into what the average canuck voter normally perceived in the 1st place. Meanwhile go wonder if school roofs benefit from a comparable budget...

Good day, have fun!! :peace:

Update:

That's no trichome glands but it already provides a perspective which differs significantly from pictures associated to the article.

Over half the bag is made of nugget fragments:

Good luck imposing "legal" features like that!!

M'yeah, 47 % of the weight for the middle cup, plus 9 % relatively to a cup full of calix grapes plus 2 % in vegetal dust, so that's ranging above 50 % or half the bag no sweat.

The question remains: would you buy it??
