Improving clarity of alcohol hash

This is a trial done after seeing a video performed by someone else. I am not suggesting this is a original method for for filtration but just sharing that it is cheap and works.

First you'll need

isopropyl alcohol,

an activated carbon filter (ebay, hydroponics store, or electronics stores maybe they have them for soldering iron fume filters... we have them at schools locally)

A narrow pvc tube

Buds

In freezer: 12 hour soak of .25 ounce dried undesirable buds in one pint or less of isopropyl alcohol and shake occasionally.

Strain from buds and here's picture of equipment. The pvc has a slice of a replacement activated carbon filter (from an inline scrubber fan) rolled up tightly and stuffed inside. Notice how dark the tincture is.

Filtered once with a carbon filter. It's already looking much more pure.

After the initial filtering, the carbons were clogged with some pretty nasty stuff. So i replaced the filter with another of equal dimensions.

After 5 more runs through this filter, the tincture was cleaned to an amber color.

It is helpful to have two containers so you can transfer the run off back into the measuring cup and pouring the measuring cup back into the pvc filter column without spilling.

If u still here, i wanna ask is it working cause some people said carbon will harm the concentrate, and carbon powder will work

The easiest way to get a clean concentrate is to not extract the chlorophyll in the first place. All you need to do that is a fast cold extraction. There is link at the bottom of my post in my signature line that explains the method I use to do alcohol extractions. If you do fast cold wash instead of long pointless soaking you will get a waaaay cleaner product without all the extra filtration steps and messing around.

I know but i’m really curious about this carbon method, cause we can use stem too right? Is it any harm or something else, rso can take up to 2minutes30, QW only 1mins30 max so it is still some thc in it right

I would never use stems in anything I wanted to smoke. Stems have hardly anything valuable on them, I also don’t use any leaves that aren’t TOTALLY covered in trichomes. Premium trichome covered trim and sugar leaves or buds only.

RSO is for oral ingestion and gets made with different goals then qwiso or QWEt that gets smoked.

When I make qwiso I try not to let the material stay in contact with the alcohol for more then 30-40 seconds. The faster and cooler the better. I do 3 washes to gather as much of the thc as possible but quality in the long run is always more important then quantity. I don’t usually even smoke the third wash because it has gathered enough chlorophyll it’s best for edibles.

Thanks for the reply, cause i’m gonna use bowl trim, so it will have leaf with no sugar in it, what happen with those carbon filter u had make, is it still smokesable?
