Is this cyanobacteria?

I think this started from
1. Me not running the system 24/7 letting the water sit still for too long
2. Using organic PH down
3. Non RO water

I have cleaned a lot of slime out of the res tank and brain controller I guess it has been building up a while (PH has been swinging up to 7.8 overnight for a while I didnt know why I read it happens because of aeration so this threw me off)
IMG-20210110-WA0030.jpeg
I havent cleaned the pots yet as I'm confused.
I am currently running with plain water while I wait for delivery (non organic PH down, h²o², new hose pipe, res pump & timer)
This may take a couple of days

I'm struggling to understand what to do.
1. People say use 3% h²o² but dont state if just to clean with it or to constantly add it to the res throughout
2. People say use cannazym then people say cannazym will make it worse.
3. People say use the extremely expensive hydroguard which to me seems the same as cannazym

Could anyone please just take me through what I need to do in correct order with actual depth to their explanation so I can get this right, if i lose this harvest i dont think i will be able to recover from it.

Do you do weekly res changes? Looks like pythium. I would just use bleach and call it a day. 2-3ppm to everything added to the reservoir.

I've used chlorine for years. These ladies are grown with only a complete plant food, potassium silicate and bleach.

Here's a dilution calculator for calculating dosage: http://www.foodsafe.ca/dilution-calculator.html
Bleach? Like thick toilet bleach?
Screenshot_20210111-141741_Amazon Shopping.jpg

I have been changing res every 3 days because it runs out filthy and smelling horrible also having to add excess amounts of ph down per day

This whole time I have just been using the combi systems aerated dripper, will turning off the aerated dripper and instead using the air stones DWC style help stop this from happening again?

I have large net pots, with a dripper tube sticking out the bottom so if I take the net out of the pot and put on the floor it will tip or push the dripper tube up the hydroton ruining the roots inside the media I dont know how I'm going to do all this cleaning without ruining the grow completely

Yes regular bleach. Unscented Sodium hypochlorite original formula is usually what your looking for. Cheap dollar store brand is often a safe bet. Cheers!

And yes. Airstones should be on all the time.

You might just want to start over. I doubt you will be able to recover from that mess. If you feel like going to battle, I would first clean your system with hot water and soap. Then sterilize with peroxide. Then rinse off as much dead shit from the roots as you can and then a peroxide bath for the roots....good luck

I should have realised only using the airated dripper in my combi system doesnt mean the roots arent reaching down out of the net pots

After including bleach in a feed no gunk backed out of the drain

I have cut all roots up to the net pot and completely cleaned everything system looks a million times better now

I assume some of the root in net pots/hydroton is like this so I will keep h²o² in my feeds and make them less often so it gets more dry time

I'm waiting on new air rings and airline unfortunately out of stock but for now roots arent down in the res pool anymore

I'm putting a small length of hose or something else if I can find anything under the pots to slightly tilt them so when they drain they actually drain and dont leave half a litre behind

Brand new hose fitted

Last part required to fit RO filter arriving tomorrow

I will either be buying silver bullet roots or hydroguard when I get paid
Proper PH down phosphorus acid (non organic) also arrived today :)

Wish me luck

Hydroguard didnt work for me, bleach seems to be a good approach, in another system I seem to be having luck at the moment with hydrogen peroxide 12%, adding 1 ml pr. liter a day...

if its a cyanobacteria adding h202 will tripple it , i just fixed nasty algae/root Roth with hydroguard and it does work give it a try (but it takes 3-4 days to work ) if price is an issue u can use SAG lot of ppl say its concentrated hydroguard but i dont know. @Darknes01 had a long fight with cyano maybe he can chime in.

To clarify, I have for the last 18 months been struggling with slime on the roots.

First up I tried adding H202 from the local drug store 3%, that didnt work.

Then Hydroguard alone, didnt work.

Then a Heisenberg tea with Hydroguard as an ingredient, that sadly also didnt work.

Bleach has now been applied to one of two NFT systems I have each having 4 plant and it works, at 5 ppm max.

Afterwards I bought a bottle of H202 at 12% with 1 ml pr liter a day, which as run now for 14 days with no issues.

An important change is that I have stopped using an airstone in the reservoir, because I suspect it may have been a cause for this, also because in over 15 years with NFT I have done fine without.

I now run with a ph of 5,6 instead of the usual 6,0.

Final change this time has been going to Advanced Hydroponics PH down instead of PH down from GHE.

For over 15 years I used nothing but tap water with a ph adjusted to 6,0 and Flora Micro and Bloom from GHE, reservoir smelled like an aquarium the first 2 days and then it was clear water all the way, even without changing the reservoir even once during a 60 day run.

But to each there own. From my experience you have to try different solutions until you find what works best for you.

Have a good day people...

LOL

Woke up today the brain controllers completely dead the timer on it isnt operating and neither are the pumps

And my strippers are letting out just tiny dribbles of water

YOU CAN NOT WRITE THIS SHIT. ONLY ME

How did u measure out to make sure u are at 5ppm for bleach in your system?
Also u should not use h2o2 from drug store, the low strength versions have additives to hold the h2o2 so its not good. get it from your hyrdro store if u can, I get 35% food grade, but please do tell me how u exactly measure out the 5ppm for bleach.

Bleach,
0.1g to 10 gallons is 1ppm. 0.1g for 8 gallons is roughly ~ 1.2ppm residual.

Bleach,

Quote from @Wastei in this thread

if im not mistaken 1gram = 1millilter right? if so then u are giving them .1millilters per 10 gallons ? of what ? household bleach? maybe @6% concentration? or are u using pool shock which is 50%+ in concentration?
I got myself an ORP meter and started to play around with bleach and orp, got a nice opr of 600 by using 1ml bleach @6%(concentration) per gallon and giving it to my clones and a few teens in coco. So far, now about 5 days have passed and 2 times watered like that, plants look healthy and happy. I dont get it lol.
I looked up at the online calculators and 1ml of bleach @6% per gallon =16ppm of bleach, if this is correct then my plants should of died long time ago no?
I didnt just randomly come up with 600ORP reading , There is a post here on rollitup and she discusses how 600ORP is pretty good and you need 750 and above to kill root rot, I also tried to get my ORP to 750 but it was coming out to about 20ml of bleach per gallon , now i was not gonna test that out since i was pretty sure that would kill my plants on the spot.
** note for anyone wondering ORP = Oxidation-reduction potential

My bleach bottle states; sodium hypoclorite 2,4%(36ml)

I have just checked the system with H202 at 12%, been running for a week now with 4 clones, to my absolute horror, I again again have white crap floating around in the reservoir, just a bit, more in the pipes actually.

Just goes to show that when you things is running good its really not, cant see it on the plants yet however.

So now new plan, just ordered a european version of pool shock with 70% Calcium Hypoklorite.

Will clean it all, and start up with 0,2-0,25 gram of this pool shock to my 8 gallon reservoir, the final solution.

Do you have any pictures of the white crap floating around,is it floating on the surface? For me bleach has been more effective than pool shock running Jack's 321. I would just add 4ppm of bleach to everything added to the reservoir, it's pretty foolproof really.

Bleach is almost always more pure than calcium hypochlorite, 70% means the rest is a mix of Sodium chloride, Calcium carbonate and Calcium hydroxide.

I get some biofilm floating around in the reservoir but it's all being filtered out in the system. Roots constantly renew and grow leaving a bunch of waste left. In DWC there's always a lot of shit floating around at res change. Good fresh smell is key! Cheers!
