This is an interesting development. The brother of the disgraced but pardoned Michael Flynn delayed deployment of National Guard troops for three critical hours on Jan. 6.

The timeline:

  • 1:30 p.m.:
    • Capitol Police are overwhelmed and forced to retreat up the steps of the Capitol.[54]
    • Large numbers of Trump supporters march from the Ellipse 1.5 miles down Pennsylvania Avenue toward the Capitol.
  • 1:34 p.m.: D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser requests via phone that Army Secretary Ryan D. McCarthy provide an unspecified number of additional forces.[56]
  • 1:35 p.m.: In Senate deliberations, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) warns that refusing to certify the results of the presidential election under false pretenses would push American democracy into a "death spiral".[54]
  • 1:49 p.m.: Capitol Police Chief Sund requests immediate assistance from District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG) Commander Major General William J. Walker.[56][52] Major General Walker loads guardsmen onto buses in anticipation of receiving permission from the Secretary of the Army to deploy.[52]

  • 5:08 p.m.: Army senior leaders relay to Major General Walker the Secretary of Defense's permission to deploy the DCNG to the Capitol.[52]
  • 5:40 p.m.: 154 DCNG soldiers arrive at the Capitol Complex, swear in with the Capitol Police, and begin support operations, having departed the D.C. Armory at 5:02.[56]
  • Around 5:40 p.m.: As the interior of the Capitol is cleared of rioters, leaders of Congress state that they will continue tallying electoral votes.[54]
  • 5:45 p.m.: Secretary Miller signs formal authorization for out-of-State National Guard to muster and deploy in support of U.S. Capitol Police.[56]

According to testimony during the recent Senate hearings, Michael Flynn's brother, Charles Flynn delayed deployment of troops because "bad optics", something that was not a concern when troops were deployed during a demonstration that was peaceful in comparison to what went down on Jan 6. At that time, there was no hesitation on the Pentagon's staff.

D.C. National Guard chief: Pentagon took 3 hours to greenlight troops during Capitol assault
One of the military leaders who advised against deploying troops was Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn, the brother of ex-Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, the Guard chief said.

“The Army senior leaders said that it did not look good” and would not be "good optics,” Walker said, adding, “They further stated that it could incite the crowd.”

Walker said he was told then-Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy was meeting with then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller and they could not be on the call, but the senior military leaders who were on the call said it was their best advice not to have uniformed Guardsmen on the Capitol grounds.

Walker identified those senior leaders as Gen. Walter Piatt and Lt. Gen. Charles Flynn — the brother of Trump’s first national security adviser, who was pardoned by Trump after twice pleading guilty to lying to the FBI during the special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the Trump campaign
The sec of defense couldn't be on the phone when the capital was attacked, what was more important?
The DHS was on a convenient foreign "goodbye tour".
They got a memo the day before tying their hands without permission that was withheld.
The list goes on and on, I'd say several people are gonna go to prison for conspiracy to commit sedition/insurrection and Donald will be among them, though he will be in prison for something else first. This was discussed at meetings in the WH, wait till the rats start squealing, Rudy, Don jr and a bunch of others were in the loop on this one.

US Capitol riot: Federal investigators are examining communications between lawmakers and rioters - CNNPolitics

Federal investigators are examining communications between US lawmakers and Capitol rioters

(CNN)Federal investigators are examining records of communications between members of Congress and the pro-Trump mob that attacked the US Capitol, as the investigation moves closer to exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists, according to a US official briefed on the matter.

The data gathered so far includes indications of contact with lawmakers in the days around January 6, as well as communications between alleged rioters discussing their associations with members of Congress, the official said.

The existence of such communications doesn't necessarily indicate wrongdoing by lawmakers and investigators aren't yet targeting members of Congress in the investigation, the official noted. Should investigators find probable cause that lawmakers or their staffs possibly aided the insurrectionists, they could seek warrants to obtain the content of the communications. There's no indication they've taken such a step at this point.

RELATED: US Capitol Police request two-month extension of National Guard deployment in Washington

With about 300 people facing charges, the investigation has shifted from the roundup of what law enforcement officials consider low-hanging fruit arrests of people accused of participating in the riot to those who allegedly conspired and planned the assault to disrupt the constitutional process of congressional certification of the election results.

Justice Department officials have assigned more than two dozen prosecutors, including some from outside Washington, to delve into more complex questions, including possible funding of insurrectionists and whether political figures, including lawmakers and staff, aided the attack, the US official said.

Law enforcement officials say one of the first steps taken after the insurrection was to seek cell phone tower data to try to identify people at the Capitol that day, a tactic allowed under existing law. That was necessary, the officials say, because among the multiple failures that day was the US Capitol Police allowing the hundreds of people who had attacked the building to leave without arrest.

Authorities announced only a handful of arrests on January 6, and the FBI and other agencies subsequently used a dragnet across the country to find the rioters.

Law enforcement officers have used what they call an "exclusion list." The list lets investigators see mobile devices that were authorized to be in the Capitol -- such as for Congress members and staff, law enforcement and other government and public safety officials -- while sifting out people who were not authorized to be in the building, according to a federal court filing in a riot-related case.

The FBI and Justice Department declined to comment.

FBI collection of phone metadata and geolocator data -- permissible under federal law -- was the subject of multiple lines of questions this week by some senators who pressed FBI Director Christopher Wray to reveal what investigators were doing with communications and financial data. Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Josh Hawley of Missouri suggested at a hearing Tuesday that the FBI could be overstepping its authority by scooping up communications data.

Investigators also have Capitol Police security footage that Democrats want examined to see if any members gave tours to riot participants in advance of January 6. Democrats have accused unnamed Republicans of providing rallygoers access, suggesting they were surveillance opportunities ahead of the riot.

Other lawmakers have a separate concern, that as investigators move closer to the activities of lawmakers, some members of Congress could use the protections of the Constitution's Speech or Debate Clause to try to block the work of the FBI. The clause provides legal immunity to members of Congress when carrying out their legislative duties.
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat, says he's asked the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate because he believes Congress will be able to get information that the FBI may have trouble getting because of the Speech or Debate protections.

Whitehouse, in a telephone interview with CNN, says his effort is aimed at "making sure this isn't an investigation that is limited to the individuals who assaulted and entered the Capitol on January 6," adding that "potential culpability by members of Congress" has to be investigated.

The new phase of the federal probe is along the lines federal officials outlined after the attack. Acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin said that after the initial stage of rounding up rioters, prosecutors and investigators would begin examining more difficult aspects: including the funding and organizing of the riot, the likely interviews of lawmakers and even whether incitement at the rally held by President Donald Trump before the riot broke any laws. Prosecutors have also pushed to bring sedition charges against some alleged rioters, a step awaiting approval from the Justice Department, according to people briefed on the matter.

As you say, the list goes on and on. I try to suspend judgement until the time comes to make decisions but this one is just like everything else that Trump and his swamp dwellers did during his term in office. They are just hiding behind legalities. Trump and his team were conspiring to overthrow the government and they damn near succeeded. But they didn't and so, they fight it out in the courts and in the public news outlets while the investigations continue.

There are plenty of examples where the chain of command worked proactively and quickly. This time it didn't and we know why. It was obvious the day it happened that Trump's team not only caused the insurrection, they delayed support for Capitol Police by three critical hours in order to give their boys time to either murder or take hostages and failing that to get away.

Oh I'm sure the grand jury and FBI will hear much more than we know, like everything Trump did, it was sloppy, stupid and arrogant with a ton of evidence and witnesses. We just have an opinion based on available facts and public testimony, but from what is known thus far it looks pretty damning and appears to be a criminal conspiracy involving high government officials and members of the military.

Richard ‘Biggo’ Barnett, Who Posed at Pelosi’s Desk During Capitol Riot, Has Meltdown During Court Hearing (thedailybeast.com)

‘It’s Not Fair!’: Rioter Who Posed at Pelosi’s Desk Loses It in Court

MAGA MELTDOWN

The self-described white nationalist who stormed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and posed for gleeful photos during the Capitol riot doesn’t believe he should be in jail—and he’s had a temper tantrum in court to make his opinion known.
“They’re dragging this out. They’re letting everyone else out,” Richard “Bigo” Barnett yelled during his Thursday court hearing, insisting that “it’s not fair” that he is still in jail while a slew of his fellow rioters have been released pending trial.
“This has been a bunch of crap,” he added.

The 60-year-old Arkansas man is facing several charges, including theft, after posing for an infamous photo in Pelosi’s office and arming himself with a stun gun as a MAGA mob attacked the Capitol while Congress met to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. Barnett was one of the first of at least 300 people to be arrested for participating in the riots and is among the few to remain in jail.

Dozens of rioters have been released pending trial, a result of lower-level offenses that federal judges have said are non-violent and therefore not worthy of detention. That fact seems to irk Barnett, who unloaded on Thursday about how “everyone else who did things much worse are already home” before accusing prosecutors of delaying his hearings.
“They can't keep pushing me out month by month!” he yelled, pleading that he does not want to remain in a D.C. prison for “another month” while others are “already home.”

Barnett’s outburst was futile. After a five-minute recess, his lawyers told the judge they intended to file a new bail motion. The judge said he would rule on whether to release Barnett after that is filed, then abruptly ending the hearing. His next court date is May 4.

Federal prosecutor Neama Rahman told The Daily Beast on Thursday that prosecutors prefer to keep accused criminals in custody pending trial but most of the Capitol riot participants have been released on bond because they’re not “a risk of flight or a danger to the community.”

But in Barnett’s case, he was seen carrying a weapon into the Capitol, so it could be argued that he is dangerous.
“The Magistrate Judge on his case originally wanted to place him on home confinement, but the Government appealed, and Chief District Judge Beryl Howell ruled that he was a danger to the community,” Rahman said in an email, adding that the judge “used to work in the Capitol on the Senate Judiciary Committee, so she may have been more offended by the assault than others.”

Prosecutors allege that during the Jan. 6 siege that forced lawmakers to hide for hours, Barnett was photographed carrying a stun gun and walking into Pelosi’s office. He posed for photographs sitting in Pelosi’s office with his feet propped on a desk, according to a criminal complaint.

Another photo shows Barnett, who previously described himself as a white nationalist who was prepared for a violent death, holding an envelope addressed to Pelosi. Once outside the Capitol, he appeared to brag about his behavior, all while still holding the personalized envelope he stole from Pelosi’s office.

“I did not steal it. I bled on it because they were macing me and I couldn’t fucking see so I figured I am in her office. I got blood on her office. I put a quarter on her desk even though she ain’t fucking worth it,” Barnett told one news outlet, according to the complaint. “And I left her a note on her desk that says, ‘Nancy, Bigo was here, you bitch.’”

In an interview with federal authorities, Barnett admitted to driving to D.C. from Arkansas to participate in the “Stop the Steal” rally. He insisted that he was “pushed inside of the Capitol by a large crowd” during the rally. He has since returned the empty envelope.

Defendant In Trump Riot Case Throws 'Tantrum' Over Being Held In Jail | Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow reads the court transcript of a court hearing for Richard Barnett, who was infamously photographed at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's desk during the pro-Trump riots at the Capitol on January 6. Barnett is frustrated at being held in jail when others of the mob that day have been released.

I'm sure he would like room service too.

It's pretty plain these clowns thought they were something special and had some kind of imaginary privilege. Most honestly think they had a right to sack the capital assault cops and murder congress people! Many are walking out of court with bail however, perhaps they all should be rounded up and brought to DC for arraignment and trial, that's where the crime took place.

FBI Finds Trump White House Associate Contacted Proud Boys Before the Capitol Riot: Report (thedailybeast.com)
FBI Finds Trump White House Associate Contacted Proud Boys Before the Capitol Riot: Report
MAKING CONNECTIONS

The FBI has found through the examination of phone records related to the Capitol riot that a person associated with the Trump White House was in contact with a member of the right-wing extremist group the Proud Boys in the days preceding the attempted insurrection, The New York Times reports. Via cell phone and location data, the bureau determined that a person linked to Donald Trump’s White House and one of the Proud Boys corresponded in the lead-up to the mobbing, though the FBI has not determined what the two people discussed and did not reveal who they were. The bureau also found that Republican members of Congress were not in touch with members of the mob during the attack on the Capitol, as Democrats have alleged.

The more time passes from that discraceful episode the more I think how lucky we actually got. It was a fiasco surely but could have been sooo much worse (MAJOR BLOODBATH),that I don't know how the nation could recover. IT was a undisciplined free for all w/no clear objectives. A operation planned w/precision would have resulted in a DISASTER, so much so that a impotent Gov. that would have been in utter chaos might have prompted adversaries to take advantage ie, China/Taiwan,Russia/LatviaLithuaniaEstoniacorridor etc ccguns

Imagine if Mr Trumpf had been a real leader and had been at the front of that mob. It would have froze the cops long enough for them to get in sooner, and they may have killed Mike and Nancy. We were very lucky.
