I just got a bag of frass (insect poop). The self acclaimed "master gardener" I bought it from said frass tricks cannabis plants into thinking they are being attacked by insects. They then defend themselves with the only weapon they've got -- extra cannabinoids.
What do you think? Did I waste 20 bucks?

He was talking about the S.A.R effect, systemic acquired resistance and I very much doubt that will do it as it is usually always chitosan and is VERY expensive, take it back and tell them this you have been conned.

I am not dumb enough to fall for it so no, never had nor will I ever buy it but you got conned, plain and simple, two choices here, either you live with it or you take it back to the store.

I'm pretty sure that's insect frass, if it is you'll be very pleased with your purchase...I use Chitosan with great results and I've been doing some research and come to find out insect frass have Chitin which also creates a S.A.R effect...Make sure to use some gypsum or some other from of calcium carbonate with the frass, since the frass tends to be high in magnesium and low in calcium, also it's suggested to use a source high in soluble/assimilable Nitrogen such as fish emulsion...The Insect Frass is also an excellent foliar spray, and it populates the leaf surface with beneficial microbes making it highly effective against Powdery Mildew.

Granted, it is expensive. I'm friends with the local hydro store owner and his vendor had gave me several sample bags a few months ago. I used it as a tea on a Dark Devil auto during my last grow and my plant always seemed to like it. However, I didn't do a side by side comparison so I can't say for sure that it had noticeable effects. Considering the price, for me, I wouldn't buy it if I didn't get free sample packs.

I've been using frass for over a year now, It noticeably improved the appearance, smell, taste, and potency of my flowers. I personally mix it into my medium, but I know people who get the same effect top dressing or doing teas. It's really not too expensive $30 worth treats 85 gallons of medium. I now buy the big bags which comes with a huge savings per/gal compared to the 3lb alternative.

I'm currently using a soilless medium and wondered if topdressing with frass would be a waste. I do use synthetics but I also do a lot of organic practices as well. I wasn't sure if the frass would breakdown appropriately when using the synthetics. Have you noticed a difference using frass?

I'm growing in Promix and use synthetics with organic practices as well and from my understanding when top dressing with frass it takes 3 to 6 weeks to become available to the plant, but that can be reduced by using an enzyme product while feeding...I literally just received my order today from Amazon, pump to give this stuff a try because I already know it's the bees knees mannnn!!!

*edit: Yes it will break down appropriately using synthetics it just takes more time if not coupled with extra enzymes. IMG_20160305_145008.jpg

Nice! Same brand I use. Yeah frass will work with synthetic fertilizers for anyone wondering.
