Leafs towards bottom of plants curled downwards, turning grey in middle, some leafs in middle and bottom falling off,

I am growing four plants in a home grow. This is my first time ever growing cannabis myself, but I have worked in the industry on the post-processing, extraction, etc. side of things for some time now. I just flipped my plants to flower two weeks ago. The first week seemed fine, but this past week some of the leafs on the lower part of the plant started showing signs of potential deficiencies. Pretty quickly, the edges of a bunch of leafs on the lower part of my plants started curling downward, and the smallest leafs on some of the lower branches appeared very thin due to cupping, and would turn a greyish, dark color towards the base of the leafs before appearing to almost mush, and fall off. All of the other leafs up top look healthy for the most part, with a minor sign of nute burn on one, and another one only having some slight upwards cupping on the edges of some leafs.

I am growing with a 400W LED, in a 2x4x6 foot tent. One of my plants stretched higher than I'd like, and is closer to the light than i want but all four plants are experiencing similar issues so I don't know if that is the cause.

My medium is 70/30 coco coir/perlite, and the plants are each in 1 gallon fabric pots. I wish I had transplanted to 3 gallon bags 2 weeks prior to flip to flower, and flipped a week earlier, but I am still learning and now that they are in flower I don't know if I want to transplant as I have read that can make things worse.

I have temperature and humidity control through the outlet fan, and that sensor is up at foliage level in the center of the tent. I also have two monitors down below foliage level at the same area as the lowest part of the plants. the bottoms have been pruned to improve airflow. The temps on both top and bottom have stayed between 70-80 degrees C, and the humidity on the bottom is around 40-50% while the top humidity is a bit higher than i'd like, but still nothing crazy (55-58%).

I was feeding twice a day with 3/4 strength blue planet nutrient mix with micro, grow, and bloom + cal mag in water adjusted to a pH of 5.8. I very slowly started reducing relative quantities of Micro and cal mag (both containing nitrogen) after I flipped to flower, keeping Grow more or less the same, and increasing the Bloom. While problems were developing, the PPM of the mix was steadily below 1000 and at or below the nute mix PPM I have been feeding. Just today and yesterday, per the advice of a colleague, I started only watering once per day and I saw the PPMs go up noticeably, past the feed I am doing by a good bit. I am okay trading that for a weekly flush to remove salt buildup if that fixes the curling issue, as it was suggested to me that the issue could be daily overwatering. When I did switch to one feed per day, the medium was definitely alot dryer this morning than usual (measured by weight of bag) but still maintained moisture within, so at least I know that the plants are drinking.

I have attached a bunch of pictures below. If anyone is able to offer some friendly advice to this novice grower I would be much appreciated! I'm proud of the veg and want to see if I can salvage the flower! Pictures of general grow and some of the problem leafs and areas posted below.

This looks like it might be nitrogen toxicity to me in some of the pics. Look up "the claw" and you'll see a lot of similar pictures. Should be a quick fix in coco, flush with some pH'd water and adjust the nute mix on the next feeding. I just had the same issue in my grow. The affected leaves won't get better, but new growth shouldn't be effected.

Thanks JS, I'm going to give this a shot tomorrow morning! I'v been feeding daily, should I also cut back on frequency and give feed every other day? Either way I'll dial back some of the nitrogen on the next one.

They look like they are reaching a lot bro light needed to be closer and 400w led is not that strong, I use 3-2000 watt led for 3-4 plants
Hey BSmoke, Your girls look great! I appreciate the tip too, I actually thought these were 400 W but now that I'm reading the specs on the light from where I bought it they actually claim only 200. I attached a screenshot below of the brand and info of the light I got, I purchased it on amazon and it seemed to have good feedback on the 2x4 ft space so I thought it would be sufficient but perhaps not. I will say, after the flip the girls started stretching like crazy and this week got to the point where one cola on one of my plants was almost touching the light. I used LST to move that one farther away from the light and closer to the edge of the tent but have still seen just a bit of stretching elsewhere. Does that all sound normal or do you think the light is an issue based upon the type of light I purchased and the info I provided? I really appreciate all y'alls help, I told myself I was okay if this first grow ends up failing so long as i can learn a bunch from it and avoid repeat mistakes on the next one, but these particular issues since the flip have stumped me!

I cut back to just pH'd water until I saw the new growth looking healthy, but I'm in soil so it's different. I've never grown in coco, but I've read you want to be watering every other day and feeding every time you water. I'd definitely dial your feeding back until things improve.

Sounds good! I will say, the new growth at the to

Sounds good! I will say, the new growth at the top of the plant looks very healthy, this issue has really only been at the very lower levels of the plant, though looks like it may be progressing upwards slightly. It also effected some of the existing older growth at the bottom of the plant as well as the newer leaves at the very bottom of the plant, so it seems to be more of a localized situation as opposed to an explicit 'new growth' issue. Either way, appreciate the advice!

LED are tricky buys you want 3or4 watt chips led or they are oversea crap light. And did you top or fim them?

You would want 2 of those sf 2000 in your space.
I'm not even sure I could fit two of those in that space, one takes up most of the real estate for a light when hanging . IfI had 2 plants instead of 4 do you think that might help the issue? I did measure the lumens with one of my coworkers and we were between 500-600 par but that was at canopy level with the light 24" above it. It's much closer now since the light can't go any higher

I did top them in week 3 of veg. Do you have any solid recommendations for LED's on a 2x4 foot tent? And do you think this could be causing any of the leaf issues or is the light mainly going to be an impact seen on the current stretching of the plants and the overall yield?

Light will have big impact,I’m using sosen/Samsung 2000 I’m using 3 in a 5x10 room and putting 3 more in you could fit two of those in there but I don’t do tents I like space for my girls and not tied down in height

Gotcha! I see what your saying. I will someday have a dedicated grow space but for now I am in a rental and unfortunately must make due with the tent :(

in coco :
you need to measure PH in and out--- to know the root zone PH.
and measure EC in and out--- to know how much plant is eating, or you have excessive salts .
flush with PHed water when there is salts.
increase feed slightly when the run off is low EC.
never let coco dry.
always water until there is 20% run off.
Always make sure that your meters are calibrated.
use some root beneficial bacteria.

Definitely you have an issue with the root zone, that prevents the plants from taking up nutrients.

stick to the above rules and always watch the new growth.
if you new i advise going with some organic grow in some living soil, it takes care of everything for you.

Hope this helps, good luck.
