Hi i was wondering if i would be fine leaving my ladies in veg for 10 days in dwc without checking on them im going on vacation

I use DWC but I change the reservoir every week. Do your roots hang to the bottom of the container? Plants drink water pretty damn fast it would be terrible for them to dry up completely and die. Nutrients get used up in the water also I went a couple extra days and one of my plants started to yellow. I run low nutrient regimen though. There is a number of other things you have to worry about also. Like your grow room being protected from people that know you are gone. The possibly of electrical fire and not being home to catch it. Basicly the things that can go wrong while you are at work.

Yeah but in reality what can you really do if your at work and a fire started you would be screwed the same if you were across continent or event if your at home upstairs its not like your going to magically put out the fire all i care for is if the plant would be fine im running advance ph perfect line

You don't have anyone you can trust to watch over them? My woman watches after mine while I am at work. But anyone can fuck you over no matter how close to you they are. I would say as long as the plants had enough water to last and keep the roots wet and the airstones going then they should be ok. How often do you change the water normally and are the plants in veg/bud?

How big is your bucket? How mature are your plants...how long have they been vegging?
I am going to assume your light is on a timer. You won't make it 10 days if you have your plant in a 2 gal bucket. If you are using a 3.5 gal bucket and you have a mature plant in veg, then 10 days may be pushing it. On the other hand, if you don't have a giant root ball and/or your plant hasn't been vegging long, then you would probably be fine. If you have a 5 gal bucket you should be fine. There are just too many variables to answer your question in any real helpful way to be honest.

Yeah I think you can make it but the ladies will be pretty thirsty and worked over from the PH not being adjusted. Mabey raise the the water line higher than usual before you leave?

I left for 7 days and forgot to leave my m8 a key. My largest hydro plant which was little over a month into veg in a 5 gal bucket was dead when I got back, the smaller one survived which I still have now but had literaly half a cup of water left in the bucket after 7 days. I run lower temps so that was mostly the plant drinking, get your temps near 85 air and 70's in your water and it will evaporate much quicker as well. After a month of veg I tended to add half a gallon of water back to my 5gal DWC everyday. half a gallon by 10 days. Your bucket would be stone dry when you got home....as I found out :/.

Not sure if 10 days will be good or not. I would say I wouldn't want to do it but if I had to. Large plants it might be a problem small in veg I wouldn't worry as much about.

This is a great post. I veg in 2 gal buckets and flower in 3.5. There is simply no way that I could leave my plants for 3 days, let alone 10. I don't top-off every day, but I probably should. Generally my plants are sucking down everything so that if I don't top off eveyr 2nd day, by the third day I could be looking at an empty bucket and droopy plants.
I have to leave for 7 Days in December, but I have someone to top-off my buckets for me.

I'm starting my first DWC grow, and we have to be away for Christmas for two weeks. There's no one to check on the grow while we're gone. I have three plants each in 30-gallon totes. I'm planning to follow Glaucoma's advice and set up a res with a float valve. It's cheap insurance. I ordered a swamp-cooler float valve from Amazon and will use a third tote and a large plastic barrel.
No problem... Know your plants.. In Veg i have no problem leaving them for 10 days.. Only you know if the PH is stable. If i leave my plants (RDWC system with 5 gallon pots they use about half the water... But leaving them while in flower no way.. They drink way too much for that..

Standalone buckets are an issue. They don't provide enough volume of water for the plants to wick up over that long of a period. Upgrading to a recirculating DWC system allows you greater flexability with a larger "control" reservoir and the possibility to top that up with a float valve from another source of water. I run this type of system and while 10 days is a long time to be away I came back from a Hawaiian vacation to find my plants still chugging along. A little root rot from the temps drifting up and minor deficiencies from pH wandering but they recovered. I had left about 5 weeks into flower if that tells you anything anything more than 10 days even with autopilot equipment is a little risky.

Since they are in veg, I would switch to flourescent lights while you are gone. They should drink less with less light.

very good idea. just attach a pre ph'd/nuted solution in a good sized rez. start off with fresh feed in everything, should be fine.

I run 12 plants in a 4x4 100 gallon res. I can go a 2 weeks without even looking at my grow.... the system pretty much grows itself as long as I check the ph every couple weeks and change the res a couple times per grow. That volume of water stays stable over long periods of time.

I use a 20 gallon container and a 20 gallon top-off reservoir for 3 plants in a 3x1.5x6 cabinet grow. I left my plants for the last two weeks of Veg during my first grow. They grew incredibly tall in those two weeks which caused later issues with the plants growing into my lights. I am now leaving them for the last two weeks of flower, so hopefully they will be fine.
My setup allows me to remotely view current humidity levels, temperature, and the growth of the plants from anywhere, which makes me feel a little better about leaving them. I can remotely adjust the thermostat in the house and change light schedules.
