Pot price in Canada falls 6.4 per cent to $7.37 a gram: StatCan

OTTAWA -- Statistics Canada says the average cost of a gram of cannabis fell 6.4 per cent in the third quarter as the legal price fell for the first time, but illicit weed continued to be cheaper.

The government agency says the overall average price of cannabis fell to $7.37 per gram compared with $7.87 per gram in the second quarter.

Whether you buy weed now legally or from your old source legalization has made it cheaper!

this first year of Massachusetts legalization has produced the same results as other states. everyone is a grower all of the sudden, enter the clowns and hacks, sprinkled with students of the craft, and topped by the experienced hippy and professors. we all know growing is only half of the process, and many lessons have been learned this year by many growers. the people that believe that you can just throw some seeds in some soil and be successful, will be culled out from frustration. thieves have reared their ugly heads, breaking hearts and doing the shit they do. as far as prices go, i have seen it dropping as low as $140US per oz. lower amounts about 6-7 bucks a gram. competition is convoluted, its hang on to your hat. lot of people are going out of state to move their crop, creating more bs that will probably produce laws that make it difficult to transport legitimate and necessary crops. personally, i think patience is the key, and im waiting to see what law enforcement will allow. right now, it seems to be all about your personal relationship with the local boys in blue. transparency seems to be the appropriate method, when possible. lastly, legalization, as far as my state goes, has started off with a bang, but i believe the prices will drop, appropriately, and fluctuate, then settle down. the end.

It has certainly dropped the price of illicit weed right now in Saint John New Brunswick and oz of fire goes for $140, an oz of mids for $100, and you wouldn't even be able to sell swag
NBCannabis is selling all sorts of swag for 200 plus,,,didn't see much street around when I was there, price has increased here in ON still selling street for 220 plus. Gov and illegal dispensaries 60 a quarter minimum. Once storefronts open maybe a drop but not holding my breath. 90% of everything from dispensaries and street is crap nowadays.

Gro cost for me is around $60 an lb. I haven't bought weed in 38 years. I wonder why more don't grow?
I haven't done precise calculations for a while, and I'm far more efficient than I was when I figured out my cost was about 25 cents/gram. I've gotten better, but I don't think I'm down to your 13 cents/gr yet. Well done.

I agree that if you are a chronic, GYO is the only way to go. Can't believe the money I funneled into the dealer's pockets over the decades before I figured that out.

You are correct sir. Even though it's legal here in Canada, one should exercise discretion and good judgment. I will grow the legal max of four plants and quietly work on the craft.

The pot stores here are for convenience and to provide government tax revenue. The weed is taxed as per THC content
Canadian weed companies will start to consolidate, as business challenges build up.
It's far cheaper to grow your own 4 plants of whatever you want.

Out here in mass, we can grow six. So can wifey, with the legal limit at 12 per household period. The generosity allows for bad seasons or conditions, compared to a four plant limit, that’s tough. You lose a couple - few plants to borers, bugs, storms whatever, one can still be ok til next fall. Four plant limits gotta be tough.
