Thanks Just one plant...it's about 8" from the light.

Thanks...Different growth for sure. She's gonna have to plump up a bit to hit some good numbers I think. One observation is that bud structure is more dense vs HPS.

Here's my first run under HPS...just single cola style

I'm in the midst of my own COB project. I'm on a more limited budget than some of you though. I took a crapped-out T5 6 bulb fixture, gutted it, and am nearing the end of the COB conversion.

I opted for an active cooling on the 4" x 6" heat-sinks (not shown) and two 120mm's pulling heat from fixture.

This picture is my mocking up the diamond plate (for vanity purposes only) they will run under the cross members.

What kind of cob is it...3070?
Which one's?
And things you use as holders is it plastic?...next to the LES...it is hot there!
Did you try it already (for more than an hour! ?) Do you run them @1400mA?
Sorry for the questions but I am curious...lol!

I've gone cheap on the COB's....3050's for now....will be upgrading as time goes on. I shot temps of the area around the COB's on a different light and where the clips are located it's almost room temperature. A friend of mine calls those "roach clips".

I tried the Ideal mounts for the 3050's and unlike the one's for the 3070's and 3590's they are different and do not work very well. I attempted to use a two piece mount designed for the citizens that Newark Element 4 said would work and they were a pain in the ass.

So I went with these clips I found at Home Depot.....and made them work. Yes, I've run them for over an hour and they never got warm let alone hot.

I have a question for Supra, Capt Morgan and here......I've noticed that all of you run your COB's "bare" without lenses or reflectors. Now I'm not all that savvy about photons and such, but with the 115 degree spread with these COB's it would seem to me directing a more focused light spread would be desirable.

I bought these but have not used them as of yet.

I guess reflector makes sense if you do not have reflective walls or many underdriven cobs or if you want to focus one cob on one plant...jmho!
But I will buy some when I will have more cob...

Which reflector is that? Link to where you bought them? I think it all matters on the environment such as mylar or in a tent. Then how close the led will be from the plant which changes with the amount of watts and heat.

But I am not sure about the angle...but I like the one with multiple mirror inside like lilroach one's

My .02; if you hold a flat disk in your hands, you can see for yourself how the light distribution pattern will work; first, hold it flat to you, so it's a full circle. This is where the COB chip will emit its full luminance. As you begin to tilt this disc, its apparent surface area begins to drop. At a 30° tilt it isn't very much, at 45° it's still less than half- and at a 60° tilt there isn't much surface area left at all.

So what? Here's where it gets interesting for me; if you run your chips super soft with the intention of running them close to the canopy, I'd go with no lenses in order to turn all that light going sideways into additional canopy penetration and side lighting for leaves nearby.

OTOH, if you're running big watts and you're hanging your chips up high bay style, you'll want lenses because the side lighting would dissipate or simply miss the canopy altogether.

The consensus design choice here seems to be towards running the chips softer to get more efficiency, which then leads to cola skimming COB to canopy distances that naturally take best advantage of naked chips.

Since I'll be running my chips vertically, I feel there's a much higher potential for contact damage to the LES. It's for this protection that I'm running lenses. I chose ninety degree ones so the light still spreads plenty.

Interesting. I read someplace that there's a degradation of light with lenses, but not with reflectors. I suspect it depends on the quality of the lens.

Since I'm running the cheaper 3050's with less lumens would I benefit from using these lenses or is it just a waste of time?
