Lockdowns work.

It's the best and only option we have thanks to Trump's incompetence.
tut, tut,

It's a shame that this virus is so very contagious and people can't just go out into large crowds for now.

You do realize that by starting this thread, people who can't just go buy a cheezy burger and eat it in a crowd will be all angry with you for starting this thread, don't you?

you haven't proven they don't work in my estimation. comparing south korea to our response is nonsense.
I didn't just compare it though. I spewed a bunch of science stuff and wrote long ass posts that were boring which nobody will ever read.
if NYC was not under lockdown, how many cases would they have?
See Sweden for that. Anyway, that's not exactly the point, it's a question that misunderstands my argument. Which is fine, you can disagree, but you're showing me you didn't get what I meant.

Here is the argument, made as short as I can make it.

Lockdown strategy means "flatten the curve". So I will assume you read my thing about the numbers in NY and understand it. What that means is that our healthcare system has to absorb that impact and pray to Jeebus that there's not another new york like case or even two or three such outbreak cities in the US.

We have to keep the apex of that curve below the baseline of our healthcare capacity, all the way until there's a vaccine.

I'm saying that's not possible.

you also said the lockdowns should be lifted since they are ineffective and get the economy going again.

what happens when the lockdowns are lifted, the economy starts to get going and then we have a another spike which absolutely overwhelms hospitals all over the US? then the economy sinks even deeper, people are dying outside hospitals b/c there's no room inside.

my point is other options would have been better but we didn't take that route. lockdowns are all we have and i guarantee they are more effective than not.

It's not only possible but the signals all show lockdowns work.

For example:

People aren't going to be able to freely mingle until its safe to do so.

You aren't alone in your impatience for this to be over. A bunch of people in Michigan agree. They are wrong but they have the right to be wrong.

7,636 additional New Yorkers clearly broke the law by breaching the lockdown and getting themselves infected.

Some curve ya got there...

Michigan has drive-through testing and a small army of contact tracers. So it's much more than just a lockdown. That's the problem with politicized articles. I despise Trump and his acolytes too, but to take a John's Hopkins study and say that it's aligned with the political point against caravaners made by WaPo is just as dishonest as the shit you hate.
