Here's a few pictures. Jamaican Dream,
cannon powershot sx40 hs
F/2-F/8 aperture, 1/60 sec. 1/2000 shutter speeds.
ISO 100-400

helpful tips.
put your camera in manual mode (M)
use manual focus, turn off AF (auto-focus)
set the lens at minimum focus (1:1)
ISO 200
use your flash.
if you have a tele-converter set it to your highest magnification.
move your camera until your subject is in focus. Then manual focus your subject.
-the larger the aperture opening (F/2.0) the shallower the depth of field.
Experiment with different aperture and shutter speed settings.

Nice pics man.
I played around with the macro on my Nikon for a while and couldn't get it to focus close-up, so I got pissed and said BS.
I may try reading the book sometime if I can find it.

I was using the macro function to. I read about using manual mode. It works better than macro. I took sum pictures with a magnifying glass. It was close up, and hard as hell to hold. LoL I ordered a Raynix DCR 250 super macro lens, I should get really close up. I'd like to get a micro scope and take sum pics. But yah man you should get back in it.

Good help but I have a question. I have a Canon Rebel T3 and a 18-55mm lens and I was wondering what is the next step down for a lens for taking closer photos?

Wow nice camera man. I really don't know. I don't have a removable lens on my powershot, I had to go with that Raynox lens. It was pretty cheap $76, you should check it out man. I know you can spend alot of money on lenses. I really enjoy taking macro shots of marijuana. I really want to get in close. I hope that lens does the trick.

Got my Raynox DCR-250 Super Macro lens its a 2.5x
takes really good pictures, focus is very touchy, there is hardly any focus plane.
been using ISO 100-400 depending on light, using flash, external light source. shutter speed around 1/60" to 1/250" depending on the light and the ISO I'm running with. would love to get closer.

I really want a 200mm macro lens someday it's so badass if you ever search flickr it makes bugs look awesome. I have a canon 40d I've had for several years but no good macro lenses. The only one I have is a 50mm older FD lens I have to use an adapter to mount it on a new digital body.

^^ That's the stuff I just grew just with a little point and click powershot sd770.

Here's with my 50+ year old FD lens with a converter for the new body:

That's sweet man. I really like that last one with the 2 buds, you captured it beautifully. :)I know what you mean about a decent lens to get in close. I'd like to get even closer. I'm limited, I can't change my primary lens on my sx40. I really like my Raynox, it quick clips to the from of my lens. You should check it out man.

Maybe it's the 100mm lens I'm thinking of..something that gets close in like this from flickr:

Macro is one of the cooler groups of photography, things that are dull from a distance are narly when you get close up, so much variety, even textures like rust and moss look frame worthy.
