MY DIY 21st Century 'Flood' & Drain

Thanks Poly. My mistake was my thread title not mentioning LEDs

Yeah, much of what we learned LED-wise was bogus. Unlearning it is hard for most people.

Also, the rech has changed at almost computer speed (no doubt thanks to 3D imaging in just 3 short years. And the promise that multichips hold is a whole 'notha' level!

Now that the roots are too big for the shallow bubbler, I just moved the clones to a bigger rez, + not enough volume either. The down side is the 2 taller plants are at the top of the tote. Not sure I have a taller one. Oh yes, I have one that I had to cut the bottom out of from my old HPA days when I had to stack them due to long as roots.
Job one, but may need to add another bulb

In spite of 80*+ weather, Phoenix is fattening up like crazy.

Buds are filling in everywhere. Top cola is ~ 12".

Took a pic of bottom and top, so can stack them for a clearer idea of what she's up to.

Also, a clone shot.

Since cutting watering frequency back to 1/24hrs most pistils have turned red. (It only took me 2 grows to figure that out.:wall:

Probably < 5 days to harvest

Clones. The 2 large ones are so big you can't even see the 2 smaller ones, but they are there, and developing roots

Probably done by Friday. Down to hand watering ~ 6ozs/plant every other day.

Did a little bulb swapping and replacing today. I took out the UVL 660, they have a short life anyway, and this was 3rd time using to finish, no telling what it had left. I replaced it with the ATI Blue Actinic for chlorophyll b (increase tric production), but also moved a few bulbs around for wider coverage

LED Tents: Mother + Clone

Mother

Had some housekeeping to take care of (removed 3 lowest branches) + replaced a 7.5w nude led bulb with a globed Cree WW

Clone

I bought some time by adding a riser under the bubbler + using the tote with the bottom cut out positioned upside down so I can hang the fixture on it. Hopefully the 2 largest clones will cooperate until I harvest the plants from the HOT5 tent- hopefully by Sat when full moon begins to wane.

I cut off the auto-feeding on Monday, but missed a few hand waters so wilted leafs totally dried out. Not the end of the world, but... Now that I made more head room in the clone tote, I will wait until ~ Wednesday to harvest.

IMG_1493.jpgIMG_1494.jpgIMG_1496.jpg

LED Tent

Buds continue to plump. I began replenishing the 660 ppms with ~ 300 and will dump today then drop to ~ 250 as she is maybe 7-10 days from harvest. Again, I will take advantage of the waning moon

IMG_1498.jpgIMG_1499.jpg

Clones

I trimmed the hell out of the primary leafs in order to get some light to the 2 that were completely blocked. I moved the Monster clones into a bubbler in my kitchen window as they had not rooted (normal) but were not getting light either

8 new hybrid seeds.

I had a male of this WHxWW pollinated with Bubble Gum strain that was pollinating long before Phoenix was ready, so I used some to pollinate one lower branch of my HOT5 Unknown Sat (but mighty good). About 10 days ago I attempted to pollinate one of Phoenix's lower branches. I probably won't know how well (seed count) until I harvest in ~ 2 weeks. If not, I am saving the rest of the pollen for the clones.

Both tents are flowering. The LED tent has lots of small bud sites, including TDC.

While this is very exciting, it means I need to stay ahead of drawing water from my RO system.

Yesterday I made up 2G of fresh nutes for my HOT5 tent, this morning > 1 gallon consumed.

My RO is capable of fairly high product water, but it is confined by 2 things, well mostly one- storage tank size. Since mine is under the kitchen sink, I have 3g tank, but can only get ~ 2 gallons at a time. It takes ~ 4+ hours to fully recover. I can buy and add a booster pump board which would provide near unlimited GPD

Going to take 2 more clones from the bottom of BrandX. Tops are better choice, and will root faster, but the lowers will also root. To expedite, I make a ~ 1/2" slice at the base, + scrape same to remove the hard woody component

I know this is old, but I'm just catching up... For what it's worth I have the same r.o. setup- but I found some clear tubing that slips snugly over the top (3/8?) of the spout and reaches down into a 5 gallon water bottle. Once the initial rush of the reservoir has emptied it still continues to trickle in at the speed in which it is produced. Usually takes an hour or so for me to fill the 5 gallon bottle but be careful to not let it overflow! (I find the best thing is to turn it off and levae the hose connected and just flip the lever on ever 30 minutes or so until the bottle is filled... I usually fill (2) of the 5 gallon bottles in my spare time so I always have 10 gallons r.o. water on hand for any occasion or to mix a new batch of nutes...

Welcome TB. You are right, but in my case my computer is in the same area as the ro faucet, and the dripping can be annoying

Harvest Time. I was going to pull these over the week end, but I tried one more time to wait for amber trics, which this strain has not provided in 3 grows. So busy trimming/cutting/hanging

Anyway, I need the room for the clones, just until I harvest Phoenix, then will move some of them to the LED tent to finish under WW only (or that's the plan)

I ran an experiment to see how big the same clones would grow in the smallest AP ~ 16oz v 4 liter (~ 1G). All were started in small AP. I simply dropped the small into the larger and filled in will lava rock. As you will see in later shots, the larger APs paid huge dividends

LED

Nothing exceptional other than the nuggz keep fattening up. This fat nugg is from the lowest branch

Damn I forgot what a PITA trimming.manicuring is. The glove's thumb and forefinger tips are pretty sticky after trimming the two smallest. Pulled it off using vodka. That's gonna be one mind blowing shot. Only 4 more plants (~ 2xs the bud volume) to go. :bigjoint::fire::weed:bongsmilie

Good thing I let the others hang out under the lights until I am ready. And it's break time
IMG_1513.jpg

Here's another. This small AP was put into the1G AP, but without filling in with any lava rock. It looks pretty much the same as the other photos

Wow, I put the mag glass to Phoenix's buds this morning: overnight it seems most pistils turned red.

I recollect that with my Unknown strain, it too, finished faster under LEDs than it did under the HOT5.

The biggest issue now is seeds. I pollinated Phoenix on 4/16. I wonder whether seeds mature faster too? If so, that should be excellent news for breeders. Anyway, will give it at least until next Friday. Going to take some popcorn now, then back upstairs to harvest 2 more plants.

I see a lot of DWC & F & D roots that are huge. Mine are anything but, so I positioned next to the specific plant. Maybe mine are too small? I do know the spray heads were not aimed well meaning each plant was not getting as much as I would have liked, but, roots were being well fed: APS are open bottoms so those roots were drinking until drained out. Not surprisingly, the plant closest to the drain was ~ 25% fatter.

I will resolve this so the clones will get ample per plant

Pic 5 is for a friend that I owe big time. Letting him manicure/cure the biggest of the 6

overnight? look for balls and inspect your male, sounds like polination, occasionally red hairs at night can happen and not be related to pollination, but not often enough. dont worry if red hairs are there let her keep going. wait till you see fewwer and feewer white ones pop up, you should see new ones every day! when you stop seeing them appear thats when its time.

seeds take about 3-4 weeks, if you dont have many that you can see right now, i wouldnt open calys to check them if you got a lot of them i like to harvest when the seeds are ripe, if you are careful and carefully pull the calyx from around the seed, if it is not ripe you can leave it be and often they will continue to grow, if the seed just pops right out when your doing this, its a ripe seed. (check more than one spot!)
