oh and the tool to do this with is tweezer, take the corner of one of the prongs, and scrape it down the seam of the calyx, to get it to spread apart a little bit, then squeeze the tweezers together and place them on the seed in between the seam when you just opened with the corner, and allow your tweexer to open gently, then peel back the remainder of the calyx for a better look. unripe seeds, even though they may be brown, will have their "skin" still on them. but still at that point they are usually ripe enough.

It's not like they all changed overnight, it's just that a lot more did. Thanks for the 411. Don't want to mess with the seed pods until I feel it's time to harvest. Do these trics turn amber?

all trichs turn amber given enough time, but yes they should start turning soon. i dont pay attention tho, ive come to the conclusion, to let them go till they stop producing hairs that i can tell then i give em 2 weeks. trichs.... are just as undependable as any other method of measuring ripeness, i treat it like a tomato. when it looks ready to smoke, i chop that shit.:D

^^ If it was only that easy. The grow I just finished (under a variety of red bulbs- UVL Red Lifes + ZooMed Flora Suns + Quantum Flower bulbs + Wave Point Coral Waves) is same strain over 3 grows. No matter what combination of bulbs I tried, I never got amber trics. So, good if they turn, but...

Well IMO amber is bad and worthless as cbn sux...I go to 30% cloudy on hybrids and 20% cloudy on sats and sat doms

my main issue with resin gland judging is, the plant is constantly producing and maturing trichomes, that and the fact ive seen so mant trichome conditions, although ive never really saty down with a really good scope and studied them, maybe one day, but im a little old school with some things :D

i do agree on CBN tho headache and sleepy weed really aint my style, but if thats how it ends up... well sometimes it does but i dont know more often than not with my method i have had excellent results.

Thanks guys, that eases my mind

She's in flush mode now (~140ppm). Damn she's finishing fast under the LEDS. Seems like nxt Friday will be a stretch.

My next grow method is going to be AWE-SOME. Hoping a high gph pump (like Im using now), will create more of a spray (more splash= better coverage) than a drip, but either way, this should be tits.

Close up of lower bud using a mag glass. Overall maybe 10% new pistils

IMG_1527.jpg

Earlier this week I took a couple of small pop corn buds from the very bottom. Dry enough for a taste. Not being familiar with this strain, cautiously I started with a tiny pinch.

The smoke is super clean, great flavor (hash?) comes on really fast, but smooth. Some 20 minutes later, my body is chill, but my mind is active. I'm guessing it will keep me at this level for a good while. I only smoke 2-3 times a week, and never more than a small finger nail amount (sometimes 2). My kind of high, my kind of value performance.

My journey began back on January 19, when I popped the seeds, so 4.5 months with ~ 5 days until full harvest

I'd like to try the Brix meter method as it is supposed to be the best way to measure sugar content and therefore ripening. I assume sugar content in flowers also coincides with ripeness as in fruits, but have not studied enough about it to form a solid opinion. Obviously great results can and have been obtained with good senses and experience over the years no doubt it has and continues to work well for many.

brix would definitely indicate plant health but I doubt since the fruit is either not being produced (sensi-seedless) or the fact that it is not so sugar rich in composition that it would indicate cannabinoid makeup in the trichome which is the goal in our harvest window

Without having done any research, this was also my first thought in terms of how effective of a strategy it might be in this case. So, how exactly do you judge your ripeness and chopping date yourself? I suppose we shouldn't forget to place some emphasis on proper curing in the final result as well. :) There's a good repeatable foolproof scientific method described on ICMAG using a hygrometer here: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237 ... Maybe PF has a hygrometer and can try this method and judge his results against his good friend's curing...

Swelling of calyxes combined with trichome coloration percentages. As in the article I posted. I use hygrometers and boveda 62% humidipaks for the curing.

i love the silica paks they work the best in the dry area..... simonD. heheh.... i think i just took him off my ignore the other day. he is an asss. but knowledgeable for sure. i have the feeling my animosity is misplaced towards him and that i had gotten caught up on the underground politics of this website. i still disagree with him not all commercial growers use HPS.

Thanks for chiming in guys. Yes I use a hygrometer for curing.

Virtually no new pistils for 2 days, but I will give the seeds until Friday (3 weeks) before I pull

Got the parts ordered for the Hydro Galaxy Drip Ring set up. I'm very excited as this will solve the issue of not getting all the nutrient into the Air Pots.
