My Golden Teacher Monotubs (FIRST GROW)

First, yes, I'm a Newbie at shroomation, am also a Newbie at growing marijuana in my grow tent. I've made mistakes, but have learned a lot. From Youtube (when I refer to youtube I don't just pick the first video, I look through hundreds of them. If it doesn't sound right....NEXT. And I'm also learning on here. Certain Rollitup members are helping me a LOT. I'm also learning a lot about how to use forums.....yeah, am kinda a Newbie at that.

We all learn in different ways. Do things differently, and have different opinions. If you have constructive things to say that's awesome!!!! I appreciate the input. If all you have to do is criticize me or my methods without giving constructive criticism, then go set next to someone else !!!!!! I'm not a nasty mean person, and bashing people is not my thing.

The reason I'm growing is for micro-dosing with Psilocybin. Chronic back issues, and pain, treatment resistant depression and anxiety are a vicious triad to deal with. I've even discussed this with my psychiatrist of 7 years. He's very progressive, but doesn't have any experience with the effects of Psilocybin or THC. But does admit he's read a few studies. Moreover, he keeps such things off my record. He promised and I have faith in him.

I have no interest in going on a major trip......wellllllll, maybe when I'm feeling better......:cool::cool:

I created the monotubs from instructions from a user on youtube. The holes on the sides are covered in breathable tape.

Bought the spores from LittleShopOfSpores.

Spawned them in rye grain bags bought of Amazon. Now this process was taking forever......so, I put the bags in a opaque container and put them on a heating pad with an old towel on the bottom INSIDE the container and then put the spawning bags on top of the towel. Spawned SUPER FAST !!!!

Made substrate from coir, vermiculite, sterilized while mixing with boiling water, following instructions from a user on youtube.

I can't afford a huge pressure cooker right now. Don't want to get one from a thrift store, cuz might be missing a part.

At first I had them on a table in the basement. The mycelium started to take off....then I noticed it started retreating.

So, I was like OMG OMG OMG OMG. So I went on youtube again, and found a guy with the same problem. He put his tubs on a heating pad AND under light. I also separated the monotub from the heating pad with an old towel to prevent it from getting too hot. Yes, yes, yes, I know.....many don't do this and say that it doesn't need light.

But it's working. The mycelium is starting to regrow and when I take a look under the substrate it's alive and well and the environment inside the monotub is humid and water beads on the sides. Woo hoo.

My regrets.....not using a container with a clear top, the the light gets through the white top to work. NOT KEEPING GROW JOURNALS ON EITHER MY SHROOMITATING OR MARIJUANA GROWS.:dunce::dunce::dunce:

Attached are some pics......no, it's not totally sterile, nothing like a grow room, and spiders spin webs under the lights. I remove them, but they just come back and re-spin them overnight.

So here are some pics of my set-up.

Thanks for looking !!!!!!:cool::cool::cool:

The set-up, yes, the spiders keep building webs under the light, I brush them away but they are back the next day. The black on the bottom is to prevent pinning.

Great to see that you're educating yourself and taking personal responsibility for your health. Learning to grow your own medicine is very rewarding and therapeutic.

I know you are working at this at your own pace which is good. However, I just thought I'd share some information regarding the "major trip" and the importance of the "mystical experience" for lasting change:

More recently, a new wave of studies on the mystical effects of psilocybin has begun washing over the proverbial scientific shore. Research done by Griffiths et al. in 2006, 2008, and 2011 once again showed that the mystical experiences participants had under psilocybin were “among the most personally meaningful and spiritually significant of their lives” and that they were long-lasting.

Aside from demonstrating the spiritual significance of mystical experiences, we are also starting to see important findings from studies treating psychological issues and addictions with psilocybin. Recently, Griffiths et al. conducted a study in which the terminal cancer patients suffering from related depression and anxiety who rated their experience with psilocybin as “highly mystical” were the ones who experienced the most benefit out of psilocybin treatment. Garcia-Romeu et al. similarly found greater odds that the long-term smoker participants who were able to successfully quit tobacco after a psilocybin treatment were more likely to have viewed it as a mystical experience.

Finally, MacLean et al. found a significant increase in the psychological factor of Openness in users who reported a mystical experience occasioned by psilocybin. Openness is a personality trait dimension measured by the Five Factor model, the most widely acknowledged and statistically validated personality inventory. Intellectual curiosity, appreciation of emotions, diverse experiences, and an affinity for creativity can all be attributed to this factor. Long-term increase in Openness was recorded in the follow-up.

'Magic Mushrooms' May Permanently Alter Personality
By Stephanie Pappas, Live Science Contributor | September 29, 2011 12:01am ET

Just one strong dose of hallucinogenic mushrooms can alter a person's personality for more than a year and perhaps permanently, a new study finds.

People given psilocybin, the compound in "magic mushrooms" that causes hallucinations and feelings of transcendence, demonstrated a more "open" personality after their experience, an effect that persisted for at least 14 months. Openness is a psychological term referring to an appreciation for new experiences. People who are more open tend to have broad imaginations and value emotion, art and curiosity.

This personality warp is unusual, said study researcher Katherine MacLean, because personality rarely changes much after the age of 25 or 30. (In fact, one recent study found that by first grade our personalities are set pretty much for life.)

"This is one of the first studies to show that you actually can change adult personality," said MacLean, a postdoctoral researcher at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The root of the change seems to be not the drug itself, MacLean told LiveScience, but the mystical experiences that psilocybin often triggers. These profound, transcendent feelings feel no less real to people for being chemically induced, she said. [How Do Hallucinogens Work?]

"Many years later, people are saying it was one of the most profound experiences of their life," MacLean said. "If you think about it in that context, it's not that surprising that it might be permanent

What’s the Right Psychedelic Mushrooms Dosage? Deciding the Best Dose for Psychedelic Treatment
Posted by Roger R. | Mar 30, 2016 | Articles, Psilocybin Mushrooms | 7

The highest dose tested was 30 mg of psilocybin per 70 kg participant weight (mg per kg is a typical clinical measure of dose for drugs of all kinds). This is roughly equivalent to a 155 lb individual taking slightly less than 5 g of dried psilocybe cubensis, a typical psychedelic mushroom—quite a strong dose. Four out of five volunteers receiving this dose reported the experience was one of the top five most spiritually significant events of their lives, but a third of participants also reported a significant psychological struggle. At this higher dose, experiencing fear, anxiety, and stress was more likely.

Thank you for all the time and information you put into the response. OMG, I don't wanna feel like I'm dying.........but I certainly need a change in personality and acquiring an openness about myself. I've 'lost' a lot of myself going through this triad of pain, depression, and anxiety. It's brutal. I'm 57 and an artist. I've lost a lot of drive and motivation that I used to have. Need to get it back, I don't want to live the rest of my life that way.

Thanks for asking. Well......everything kinda pooped out. In both mushrooms and I'm gearing up for another grow of :leaf:.

I rent a house with a horrible basement....it leaks.....so long story short, I'm totally cleaning out and reorganizing basement, tossing, sorting and chit like that.

I had so many cardboard boxes that were rotted and I didn't even know it......

So, am going to finish my clean-up, spray the walls down with Clorox and start everything all over in a cleaner environment.

I started those mono-tubs with permeable tape on the holes. I then switched to polyfil and the tubs caught gnats.

I've learned a lot, hope to learn a lot more.
