Wow nice cfl setup... I'll do a proper setup one day when the pandemic is over I am not stuck in a different country. This one was just using stuff that I had lying around...

How did you calculate the amount of cfl bulbs?

Each bulb has an "actual watts" not equivalent watts...thats what u go by...the actual watts...itll say on the package....
I had like 600 actual watts of cfl on that particular plant
Yes, I am aware of light bulb wattages. I meant how did you you calculate the amount of bulbs per the amount of cannabis / number of plants you wanted to grow?

It varied from grow to grow depending on how big of a plant I wanted to grow...u dont nees much for veg but to get decent flowers you want more...i would double my light wattage at least from veg to flower...
Considering your box I would try n have at least 150 watts of cfl...I see u have one socket so u can take 3 of those Y splitters n put em together n have 4bulbs of of ur choosing20200712_170128.jpg20200712_170133.jpg

Okay, sounds good, I'll see if I can find a splitter at a local hardware store. The other issue I am encountering is consistent planned power outages (load-shedding, as a result of a lack of maintenance on South Africa's power plants and substations), which over the last week has caused some days to only get 9-10 hours of light.

For flowering 9-10 hrs of light will do just fine

A bit more than three weeks into flowering. The box has steadily been overgrowing, so I decided to do some LST on the longest stretching cola which was by now growing into the bulb (an extra bulb would have slowed the stretch down for sure)... so I bent it down. I might still do the other cola if it stretches too much. I also had to clear some fan leaves by only defoliating the leaves that were blocking bud sites.

Before second round of LST:

Almost 2.5 and 3 months old. One month into flowering, apparently another 2 months left for this strain (supposedly Swazi). Overall, the few branches that needed LST did end up bent but the buds are still growing like the rest. It's really cramped in here, far more than I expected
