I asked my good friend who worked extensively on a campaign for legalization and knew prop 1 in and out, and he told me that they do not interfere with one another. So, technically, for now anyways, you are allowed to have a total of 24 in the instance of your original question. I'll be interested to see how this might play out in a court of law if such a case comes up in the near future.

Cultivation
Proposal 1 permits any adult 21 years of age or older to legally cultivate up to 12 cannabis plants in their residence, so long as there are no more than 12 plants total within the residence. Medical patients in Michigan are also allowed to cultivate their own plants. Under the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act, it is permissible for qualified patients or caregivers to cultivate up to 12 marijuana plants as well. Whether growing medically or recreationally, all cannabis plants must be grown inside locked, secured and enclosed facilities that are not visible to the public.

"so long as there are no more than 12 plants total within the residence."
the whole thing is pretty ambiguous, and doesn't just come out and say clearly one way or the other, but that line right there makes me doubtful

and....if you're growing for personal use, 12 plants at a time ought to be more than enough to keep you higher than a damn kite 24/7
start 3....wait a month, start 3 more, wait a month....till you have 12 going, then as soon as you harvest the first three, start three more....every time you harvest three....start three more....if you have any skill at growing at all, three plants will last you a month....even if you're squishing them for rosin

Yeah for sure even our shabby 4 plant thing could be pretty bountiful if done rotationally.

Thanks for answer, but I have 2 patients plus my card to grow for, also, my spouse has her card. So right now I have 36 plants, but it would be nice to grow more for more money, lol. Because I'm sure the dispensaries in my town would love more medicine. I've been growing for 10yrs now. Yes I'm an experienced grower.

I guess it's time for me to get in touch with a Michigan lawyer who specializes in this subject ,

that's the confusion. it's says 12 personal...and it says 12 medical...but no where does it come out and clearly say if the 12 medical can be over and above the 12 personal...or if it takes the place of the 12 personal

I don’t no the laws in your state, you say you have 4 patients to grow for? You are allowed to grow 12 plants without medical approval? For personal use? What can you grow per medical ?
I have my card for myself that's 12 plants, also, I have 2 patients for a total of 24 plants. So 24+12 =36 plants. For medical, Then there is recreational were I'm allowed 12 plants in my house, so, not sure if I can grow the 36 plants plus another 12 for recreational. Michigan laws are confusing right now. BUT I guess I'll stick with 36 for medical until Michigan gets there laws straighten out.
