Not sure what this is.

I can almost guarantee it's the same thing. You really think calcium is crusting up on the surface? The soil looks pretty wet.
Sips. Plant was killed over a week ago. Takes awhile for 27 gallons of soil to dry when it’s near freezing outside.

What do you think it is? It’s exactly where my topdress was added. Zoomed in on photo you can see the flakes. I don’t think it could be anything else. Ph test shows high.
Or I miss understood your post. Your saying it’s not from my tap water?? If so I agree.

It's fungal. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The fungi is probably just eating the top dressing and breaking it down for you. You could mix it into the soil before the next time you water. That's what I'd do at least. I wouldn't stress much though.

I don't really understand sips, but it's a self regulating watering system, right? Much like Blumats, which is what I was using. What I've read is saphrophytic fungus doesn't actually harm the plant and can be beneficial. It breaks down organic matter. But it can be a red flag for having too wet of a medium.

I have no idea what fungus would feel or look like but this appears to be very hard. Wouldn’t a fungus be soft and probably dissolve in water?

We are thinking it’s un used Ca from my fertilizer.
i dont' think it's just Calcium, i think it's multiple non water soluble compounds that just happen to be white.
silicon dioxide, magnesium carbonate and iron ammonium citrate.
it dont think it's fungus, i dont see any
hyphae:
plural noun: hyphae
  1. each of the branching filaments that make up the mycelium of a fungus.
you don't see any tiny hairs typical with a fungus colony growing.
Plant was killed over a week ago. .
if this is true then im not replying anymore, just gonna possibly ruin my reputation for something we can't prove anymore.

Ya, his doesn't look fungal really. I think I was getting confused by @lusidghost 's pic. I can't remember now, lol.

It could be though. Too bad we'll never know since it's already been chopped.

It's probably some mysterious chemistry that no one has any ever dealt with aside from you. Definitely not a common fungus that is attracted to the exact same environment that you created.

Not fungal and I dont know how anyone would think it even resembles fungal growth...especially with those close ups.

If anything its bonemeal from the Gaia. I've seen it on other non canna gardening forums.
