NW Montana Outdoor 2015 - Top Strains & Assumptions

Growing outside in NW Montana allows you to harvest typically until October 1st. After October 1st it get tougher due to low temps in day/night, and sunlight strength/length. This year I ran Chernobyl, Ice Cream, and Grapefruit Diesel. The Grapefruit Diesel turned out the best.

My assumptions that I will use for next years outdoor grow:

1) Clones - Many experts have indicated growing with healthy clones not only increase their vigor, but shortens flowering time and increased yield. This year was from seed and took forever to flower. In the past using clones the sun grown herbs seemed to be more finished.

2) Growing in greenhouse allow protections from the elements but heat, humidity, and lack of air movement can be an issue. Since I have electrical, I have fans hanging everywhere with the goal of not blowing on the plants but more at creating air movement especially in the corners. Heat - exhaust fan with tan smart pots. Sun cover for the greenhouse in July/August provides a 10-15 degree drop. In the past lack of proper air movement allowed a spider mite population to grow. I plan on addressing most of the bug issues in Veg stage using a sulfur burner, in the Flowering stage maybe mighty wash, but avoid most other products since I want a super clean smoke. Lady bugs have be used with mixed results. Green Cure for PM, but it seems best to use a spray and a drench. Compost teas help with plants vigor and use a base recipe of the Rev in a vortex brewer. Interested in the OG Tea and letting it sit for 24 hours unbrewed. Supplement lights are not feasible due to the greenhouse lighting up like a pinball machine. While this is a license medical grow, Im not in the position of force flowering using a tarp. In Sept/Oct heaters are used inside the greenhouse.

3) Strains - I thinking of Green thumb Iran Indica to allow a finish in Late August. Next Generation Grape God and Grapefruit Diesel decent yield and finish product. Auto flowers have been a disappointment from a yield and mold issue. The grizzly seeds by Kootenai Seeds are suppose to be bred for this climate.

4) Soil/Containers/Nutrients - I use the Rev's Super Soil recipe with layers and spikes. Cal Mag, Compost teas, sometimes Roots Serane. Smart pots used 15-20 gallons but looking at 25 gallons.

Any suggestions/tips/advice....
