No offense to you. Organically inclined is all. Elmers glue and cinnamon are better and safer than all commercial products.

Truth is you would be better off leaving it alone to cure itself. Years ago tree pruners used a pine-tar but it has been found that it is not needed. You did not say what type of tree it is.

I do not have any documents close by to refer you to but I did own and operate a complete lawn and garden service for 28 years. I have seen many trees that had the support ring burn marks on them. It would have been nice to see a picture of the damage.
