Ok so im starting a new grow, and want to transplant into 1 gal water containers in a week or 2, thing is, they are clear containers, i know i cant use a container that previously stored harmful chemicals, but, would painting the OUTSIDE of the containers be a bad idea? like should they not be that close to toxins? obviously the plants would never come in direct contact with the outside of the container but, water spills etc could lead to water running down the side and finding its way into a drain hole or somethin.. just wanna be sure before i try it, thanks!

Well I personally would just find containers that wouldn't render me such a hassle but if you decide to go this rout I would suggest not painting the bottom where your drain holes would be. At the end of my harvest I always have the roots trying to grow out of my drain holes so I wouldn't want them to be exposed to the paint. Light proofing shouldn't be a problem on the bottoms anyway as long as they will be sitting on a flat surface (be it not glass or something).

If you think paint will be warmful, just wrap the pots up in some type of protective cover. Panda film, an old sweater - whatever!
