Yes looking at the temps it doesn't seem that bad specially if you have grown up with actual cold winters. I'm sure for the homeless people living there it is a serious situation. Guessing very few have the equipment for winter camping. Nothing worse than when cold sets in and you can't find a place to warm up. I applaud the man for doing what he did and hope others there follow his lead and help other folks out where they can..
Last thing, this is the United States, people are free to live wherever they choose. I love my country and try to do my part to make it a better place. We are a damaged country which needs to learn, respect and care for each other again..
your propane tanks empty in below 0.

I don't think the ppl & pets deserve to freeze....

On another note I'm sure there are ppl down in Texas that were pissed that they couldn't join in and storm our Capitol.. Sooooo why don't they storm the damn power plant and flip the switch back on? Everyone was gangster af on Jan. 6th bongsmilie Just sayin.
Texas gets most of its power from natural gas.

"Flipping a switch" doesn't help you when the gas supply is frozen solid because you didn't winterize it to save money.

Yes, the pipelines going to the plants are frozen. Plus it takes more gas to make steam when it's this cold. And now the cost of gas has gone off the chart, so some are saying they are waiting for the price to come down before they start back up.

The fact they have their own grid keeps them from getting help from the outside. (the reason they have their own grid is so they don't have to comply with national regulations) In west Texas where they are on the national grid, they have power. Plus deregulation means the power producers are profit driven, so don't have extra capacity built into the system, as that would cost money.

also insulating pipes, guages, etc. to prevent them from freezing cost money and less profits. too bad, so sad.

It's not a matter of "deserve". It's a matter of reality biting Texas in the ass for their bad choices.. This is what happens when people believe in and act upon false beliefs.

Public policy that is based upon deception and falsehoods fail. It certainly did fail this week in Texas.

Also, not everyone was gangster on Jan 6th. Only one person died during that mob's act of insurrection. ONE. The Capitol Police acted with restraint and it was they who took the most blows. Do you think that Trumpers would have acted with the same restraint had the shoe been on the other foot?

I'm proud of this country and our system because our elected leaders decided human life wasn't worth ending the humiliation those gangsters visited upon us. We took the abuse and did not lower ourselves to the level you falsely accuse us of being at. For that, I'm proud to be an American.

They don't even have snow plows in Texas.

Can hurl up a 3 billion dollar football stadium in a heartbeat but just can't manage that 5 million dollars to have a fleet of deicing snow plow trucks on hand.
Might not have plows but they do have front end loaders, graters and other equipment to move snow. Not practical for a southern state to invest in equipment for snow removal.

About once every 20 years isn't justification for that kind of investment. People can deal with reduced mobility due to ice on the roads. They can't deal with loss of power, and water. So, maybe that should get fixed before the next "100 year storm" (Gov Abbot, you piece of shit liar) comes back in a few years.

Hopefully, this is another nudge to the left politically and the time left for the Old South political machine is cut short.

"Team AOC is launching relief efforts for Texas starting today," Ocasio-Cortez tweet on Thursday, linking to the fundraising page. "Our first effort is a partnership w/ 5 Texas orgs getting on-the-ground relief to Texans ASAP. If you're able, please donate here - it'll split your contribution to all 5."

How could anyone have anything other than respect and admiration for AOC.
