pH level

My tap water has a tested pH level of 6.3. After I let it sit for a day or 2. It's at 8.0-8.3. Can someone give me a hint as to why?

Thanks

Part of the reason is because the chlorine has dissipated, but from 8-6 is a big jump. Are you sure your first reading was correct❓

What are you using to test pH? That doesn't make a ton of sense. Usually pH drops over time as the water temp rises. Also, chlorine actually raises pH, so theoretically as it evaporates your pH should go down. Evaporation can concentrate dissolved solids which can effect pH as well depending on what's in there, but that's quite the swing.

I went back and checked it a few more times and it's actually at 7.5 pH now. So. The first reading at 8.0. Might of been a little rushed
