Pollination Question

i have a plan to pollinate 3 different strains to produce seeds on some of the bud sites by using silver spray to make pollen sacs on 3 clones of different strains. I plan on flowering 3 of the clones first to collect pollen and store it until I flower the larger plants. I understand that you remove the female from the others to pollinate her. I was just wondering how long you keep them separate so that no pollen falls off and gets onto another female that I don’t want to produce seed? Or is there a way to stop it from spreading?

Water kills the pollen. When I pollinated a female a few years ago I only pulled it out for a few hours. You can use a little brush to control where you put the pollen and how much so that there shouldn't be much risk of it spreading anywhere else.

I've learned recently and think it's worth further investigation, but people, and not a lot of them, put pollen in a spray bottle with water and spray plants to pollinate. I was always under the same understanding as you, that water kills pollen, I think I'm going to stay a thread about it. No time today, maybe tomorrow. I called bs, then seen another member that I know, knows what's up say his dad used to pollinate with a spray bottle.

Give it a go, post results too. I'm going to do some research and then I will start a thread on this topic. I will make sure to put up a link here so you guys can find it.

Just make sure you have backup pollen when it doesn't work. Sometimes people post stuff to see who will try it. If people spray to kill pollen then......

Oh for sure, this has not been confirmed by me. I'm not that type though. I rarely say anything that I don't have some insight on.

You guys can check out the thread where this conversation happened. It's on in the last few pages of the heisenbeans thread.

Quick question do you guys think that 3- 100 watt equivalent cfls in a mini fridge would be enough to get pollen from some small clones that I’m going to use the silver spray on to make them have make sacs? Because I don’t want to risk having them in the same room with my other girls

That is really an interesting technique , wondering if water has to be fairly neutral or something like that. Subbed for that thread.

I’m going to do a test when I collect some pollen, I’ll try distilled water and normal water (rain water) to see if it has any difference but for some reason I’m thinking it will kill the pollen either way.

I know I'm slacking, I'll try and get that thread started this weekend. Something tells me it might turn into a shit show, but we'll see....

You need to keep cfl's really close to the plant if you want it to have energy. You can also get those clamp on fixtures for reptile tanks, they usually have a reflector built in. Or you can get those 4-5 outlet light sockets on Amazon, one power source and a handful of bulbs.

From what I can tell pollen only gets killed by water if it is a specific type. I am interested to see the results from testing because this makes no sense to me. If water killed pollen, how would the plants have survived in the wild with rain?

Well there would have to be a dry spell in order to pollinate because if it’s polinated by air/wind it would have to be able to blow I guess similar to flour, it’s dusty when dry but if wet it isn’t there for can’t blow around.

hey I found a thread about pollination and water, if I can get it uploaded.

Not quite the same concept. I've been busy, but I want to find a couple articles on the subject before I make a thread about it.
