Quantum Board vs Old Style Viparspectra.

They are claiming a Mars Hydro TS1000W(actual 150W) quantum board can cover the same area(2.5*2.5) as a viparspectra600(actual 260W) old style. At the same price, $170. That is 58% of the wattage for the same area.
The par chart for the QB looks really good IMO.
Do you experienced guys have an idea of what the returns would be between the two?

You would be more likely to return the vipar than the mars. The old syle vipar is no bueno!
May as well run HID's than blurples for your $

I use HLG quantum boards, they're expensive but I know they're going to hold up, and I love growing so I went high-end. Mars/ spider farmer are lower end QBs

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned I am actually replacing a Viparspectra 450 (200w actual). I have ran it solo with good results but it fades off too much on the edges in my 32x32 tent.

I'll check them out. I'm really going for the budget lights though unfortunately.

I would get one of the two of these. The 648 is the newest one and 100$ more, but has around twice the diodes
It is expensive but, I think worth it.
I like HLG cause they have great customer service too. I have only bad experience with mars but the unit I have is a blurple, so I can't really say how good their QB's are

I would get two of the TS 1000's for that size room If it were me

You're going to want around 250 watts for that chamber, maybe less for higher quality lighting, maybe more for lower quality
I can't see anywhere saying these units are dimmable, so the ts-2000 is a little too much @ 300w, and so is two ts-1000's @ 300w. The advantage of two ts1000's is being able to cut electricity cost in half by shutting one off.

I really like the dimming of my boards, it allows me to cut electricity cost down when I don't need it and also heat.

The TSW-2000 would be my choice if choosing mars for your spot. It has a dimmer and is 300w maximum for 290
The hlg 260w kit is 280w maximum for 350$, and you can also subtract 10% discount on that with RIU10 or DIY10 discount codes

So you don't think that the PAR claims that Mars Hydro makes are accurate? Or do you think those par values are too low?

I know you're thinking about PAR being very important, but for me it is quality. The boards HLG has are better overall quality , and worth the extra money and is why I would go with the HLG kit. The mars will work great, and may even put out more light or something, but I would rather ensure a top quality fixture that will last me at least 10 years.

I was just talking in another thread how it would be interesting to do a side-by-side grow with spider farmer, mars hydro, and HLG lighting. Everything would be controlled in the experiments. We could then analyze the total cost of the light vs how much product was made and also do another lighting test after, to see how much efficiency has changed between each light over the course of one grow.

Led's keep changing, and getting better and cheaper, and more worth it to buy. The thing is it's so new, we don't know how long things will last so Instead of taking the gamble I paid a little extra to ensure I am getting top quality bin diodes, by a company I trust, and be able to focus on growing and move on from ever having to upgrade my lights

It says they are dimmable. I also would choose the TS 2000 but it is too much $$. It is between the TS 1000 or the Vipar 600 right now. Just curious how they perform against each other since they claim to have the same coverage with such variances in power consumption.

One thing that never changes with LED is somebody trying to get you to buy something for way more than your budget. Lol.

It only reaches the claimed output level in the centre of a 1 square foot area....
unless you are growing one small auto... I'd spend the money on a DIY project...

are you interested in DIY at all? That guy ANC would help you get the best bang for your buck

I am just using the HLG pricing to show that there really isnt too much of a price difference if you look at similar models. Too bad that small kit is sold out!
