Question about maturity.

I have a plant that is getting real close to being done. I don't have a magnifine glass to check the trichs, so I have to go by appearance. This is my first go so any help is appreciated.

My main question is about the hairs on her. When the white hairs stop coming does that mean that she is done? The top cola still has new white hairs, but the lower buds seem to have stopped growing and all the hairs are darkening up. Does that mean she is almost done?

You can see pics of her by clicking on this link (permalink) to my journal. She is the girl in the first 3 pics.:peace:

Hi,

I have to admit to having been growing cannabis for the last 13 years and never once used a glass to to gauge the trichs! I have always judged by the overall maturity or 'ripeness' of the buds. When the buds are fully ripe the overall appearance is very dark and you can see the 'amber' glint of the trichs by eye. It is still the case that many plants are harvested WAY too early which always seems a real shame to me. So long as you are seeing fresh white pistils shooting or 'foxtailing' shes not done. Take a look at some late harvest pics and I think you will see what you are looking for.

Others will say use a glass and harvest by trichs, theyre not expensive if you want to get one.

Hope this helps.

*edit* Just looked at your pics... if that was mine I'd be looking at least another 2 to 3 weeks to finish her the way I like them :-) You're going to have some nice buds there though!

Thanks for the reply! It does help.

The lower branches are all dark haired, and doing nothing but getting seeds. I think the hermie in her is taking over.

Excuse me if this is a stupid question but, is it ok to cut the bottom branches and leave the cola for another week or so?:peace:

Thanks, I think the lower buds will come off tonight. I'm worried about cutting her to early, but don't want to wait to long either. I'll just keep a close eye on her.:peace:

edit- nice pics!! I've been waiting to see the overall color darken, being color blind makes me worry about i'm seeing it right.

Thats a good rule of thumb, good advice.

Cut your low buds and let that top ripen RIGHT off

No probs, a very good one aint cheap.
I've noticed that just looking at regular mag glasses. Most of them look like they should have come in my kids toys. I haven't found 1 I liked yet and will probably endup gettting it online.
