Quit Trippin and get to Sippin

I've been growing right at a year, so I'm still an inexperienced grower. But you know what they say about a blind squirell :eyesmoke: Like the title says, get a sip, and kick up your feet :blsmoke:

Setup: 4x4x6' Tent, Passive intake vents, Infinity T6 exhaust fan, pulling through a 6" charcoal filter. (2) 2'x4' fixtures: (4) qb120's on 320 watt driver / (10) Samsung H Series inFlux Strips on 320 watt driver. 36" tower fan and 8" fan circulating air at "ground" level.
There are 9 plants in the tent. In the dwc setup is a fem Doughlato from Archive. In the planter on the right, ive got 2 PHK x Durban up front, and 2 Clusterfuck in the back, both AK Bean Brains. Planter on the left has 2 Sweet Thang from Archive up front, and 2 Cantaloupe Haze x Genius Thai Americanna from AK in the back. All plants are from seed, germinated in jiffy pucks.

The real star of the show is the sub irrigated planter. Absolutely incredible. If you're like me, watering wasn't my strong suit. I didn't realize how bad I was at watering before using a sip. I would recommend this over anything for new growers. It's stupid simple. Fill up the reservoir with water, wait a couple days, repeat. I use something called a Patio Picker, $30 at Lowes/Home Depot. Holds about 10 gallons of soil, and around 3 gallons of water. ( I also have a 10 gallon dwc setup in this tent that I'm trying for for first time. )
Running a coots mix soil that I have been reusing and reammending for almost a year. When I got the sips, I wanted a complete dry ammendment mix that I could mix or trench into the soil. Read good things on here about Dr Earth, and it was available locally. Went with the Home Grown mix (4-6-3) Looking at the package, I liked the ingredients, and the fact that is has microbes and mycorrhizae. It really woke my soil up, and the plants freaking love it. I mixed it into my soil at 1/4 strength before I filled the planters. I added a couple tbsp of agsil, a tsp of big 6, malted barley, and watered it in with humic acid.
Here is day 1 in the planters.

Day 29, 4 days after the flip

Day 33, 8 days into flower

Right around the time I flipped, I top dressed each planter with Dr Earth Flower Girl at 1/2 recommended rate, and watered it in. Lots of root action on the surface. And worms!! Lots of worms. I believe these are red wiggles.

Speaking of worms, these sips are mini worm farms. My first couple runs, after harvesting the plants and cleaning everything, I found the reservoirs about half full of soil.

Im guessing the worms worked their way down through the soil, and dropped down into the reservoir, and brought soil with them. It was like a worm factory down there. Rich, black soil, with hundreds and hundreds of worms. So now I have been using landscaping fabric, on top of the plastic shelf with holes. Hopefully prevent the reservoir from filling up so much.

That's it for now. I'm loving this simple, and cost effective method :blsmoke:

Here are some Christmas Tree Bud freebies from Respect Genetics :blsmoke: Sip with single plant is Horchata, sip with 2 plants has Blackbird #3. Started from seeds in solo cup sized pots, eventually into a 1 gallon fabric pots, where my terrible growing skills had them looking a little rough  Worried about over watering, and was drying them out.

They were a little over a month old when a couple sips finally opened up. Went into sips on July 8, and by the 11th they were looking great.

July 18, and they are picking up the pace.

2 DLA 5 x Goji OG from Respect Genetics went into their sips today. Little experiment, just reammended soil, didn't replace with new soil. I put landscaping fabric at the bottom before last run, hopefully kept soil migration to a minimum. Sips have been sitting outside the tent for a couple weeks, stem broke off super easy, like pulling the bone out of a finished pork shoulder. Soil is super active with life.

Awesome looking stuff, you’ve convinced me to try the city pickers in my lil 2x4 and I’m very excited. Beautiful plants!

Thanks, you're gonna love it!! (2) of the city pickers fit perfect in a 2x4. I'd run 1 plant per sip, and watch them explode!
I got 8 seedlings going right now, some that’ll definitely have to be culled but was thinking of doing two in each but I’ll have to see once the time actually comes.

You can do 1, 2, 3, even 4 plants per sip. The more plants, the more training involved, and the smaller each plant will be.
You'll figure out what works best for you. If I have regular seeds, I'll up pot them to a 1 gallon pot until they're sexed, then I'll put the females in the sip, and give them a couple weeks to really fill the sip with roots.
Female seeds or clones are the way to go if possible. 4 weeks in veg will give you a great sized plant. Top dress with some flower nutes, and let er rip. Good luck!!

Thanks!! I know it's hard to tell, but I cut so many leaves off throughout the grow. My Christmas Tree Bud crosses need their final trim already. They have an insane amount of foliage. I try to trim just enough for good airflow.
My biggest problem has always been putting too many plants in a sip. Even 2 plants things get crowded. Im switching over to single plants in the sips now. The sip with 2 Blackbird #3 x Christmas Tree Bud, will be the last sip with multiple plants. I think the Horchata x CTB is the first single plant sip, where I started just 1 plant. Without any competition, the roots should fill the container. Plant looks like its gonna be a beast. Speaking of, I need to get it tied down.
I'm sure within a week I'll have to trim some of the giant upper fan leaves on the Goji plants, should be a lot of shoots coming up.

Trimmed a little and trained. I'll finish trimming when they stand back up straight

Goji Finally made it to the flower tent :bigjoint: Day 15 of flower. Plant on the left looks very similar to the first seed I grew, fingers crossed, that plant was incredible.
