He's not Sharpton, so probably not.

"…some have said that either I’m brave or crazy to be here today"

“No Republican questions or disputes civil rights,” Paul said Wednesday. “I’ve never wavered in my support for civil rights or the Civil Rights Act.”

he couldn’t recall the name of the first African American elected to the Senate, and was prompted by students shouting “Edward Brooke.” At another point he asked whether they knew that the founders of the NAACP were Republicans. Groans could be head and one student shouted ,“We know our history!”

No doubt that his libertarian ideals come across horrible when it comes to businesses and segregation. Let alone the ignorance quoted above. After this speech he even denied making the comments about about his position on segregation and businesses, which is a horrible political move in my opinion.

He is however one of the few potential 2016 presidential candidates making the drug war and it's disproportionate effects on minorities one of his main positions. He is against corporate welfare. He is against foreign nation welfare, and also against nation building. All of these positions trump the idiotic comments he has made in his career.

while condescending to students at historically black colleges, ol' opossum head strung off a few carefully constructed lies, as he is known for.
he claimed he introduced a bill to "repeal mandatory minimums" when his bill did nothing of the sort. it gave the option of assigning lesser sentences. so instead of 20 years for some arbitrary number of plants, a judge could see to it that you only get 8 years instead.

profiles in courage, folks.

nevermind that the vast majority of those who face prison for drugs are not even subject to mandatory minimums, so his boasting rings mostly hollow.

don't let this guy fool ya, he is all for the drug war. he makes that clear whenever he goes to cater to evangelicals instead of condescending to blacks.

So if Rand Paul is condescending to blacks, what was Hillary doing a few years ago when she put on her best aunt jemimia accent and said "I ain't no ways tired, we've come too far from where we've been" while at a black event?

Was that condescending?

And I doubt blacks know their history as well as they think they do, most can't trace their family trees back more than a few generations.

So what? Did you know the name of the first black man elected to the senate? How does not knowing that mean anything?

Having a libertarian-leaning president will be better for all Americans regardless of their melanin content.

I don't understand the logic of folks like UncleBuck. He and I seem to have clashed on several topics where if we step back we'd see were on the same team.

We got into it over relative discrimination of gays today compared to black folks over a generation ago.

And here he has the same MO with regard to Pauls view on drugs.

He and I both agree that gays and blacks should have all the same rights. We differ on minor details, he thinks I'm a crazy homophobic racist.

Rand Paul advocates reducing penalties significantly, and Buck criticizes him for it.

It's like he can't see that a step in the right direction is a positive thing when leaping the whole difference isn't possible right now.

He reminds me of a kid that pitches a fit at the ice cream store over wanting sprinkles to the extent that the kids parents decide to not give him any ice cream at all.

cutting ones nose off to spite ones face is something else that comes to mind.

The mentality of a petulant 6 year old is on display in his posts.

Stepping stones; one step at a time and before you know it youre at the other side of the river.

Its better than standing at one side and saying "Nah, cant make it over there".
