So I went to Lowe’s the other day and picked up some stuff. I bought 5 gallon commander XL buckets. The ones with the yellow lids. I’ve seen people using them on YouTube but I’m wondering if the plastic is safe for my plants? Also I bought some PVC piping. It says “schedule 40 - NSF DVW” on it, are these materials safe tho build my system. Thanks!!

While they don't list the plastic type on the bottom of the buckets ( like every plastic container ever made, PP I would hope in this case), I'm pretty sure it's made of polypropylene, just like all the other yellow lid containers made by Centrex plastics.

I been using them for RDWC systems too, but I do kind of sketch not knowing exactly what it's made out of. Even the brochure doesn't list anything about the type.

I was about to use one for a chicken feeder project, but not going to put\store feed in an unidentified container. Plants though.. i'm not too worried about.

What you using for bulkheads?

I actually switched to tankbarn 5.3 gallon buckets. Liked the shape a bit better. Here’s the finished product :)

oh and I’m using 2” slip bulkheads I got from marine depot. Drilled my holes a bit low but 4 bottles of silicone RTV 4500 and some oateys pvc glue did the trick hahahah. I guess if it works, it works, right? I also went overboard on the bulkheads. Wanted to make sure to have some failsafes in case a port got clogged with roots. Can’t afford a leak. Thank god for my mom, she’s an engineer and a fuckin genius lol
