Receptors in the human body ...

I was wondering today about all of the receptors we have in our brain and our body . There are opiate receptors and cannibinoid receptors and receptors for the capsaicin molecules ;—the active ingredient in peppers , and other receptors . Is it possible that the humans that were born with those receptors had a higher rate of survival ? ; which effected the gene pool of the following generation ( like the law of natural selection at The Galápagos Islands , where Darwin's law of natural selection is best illustrated ? My curiosity is about whether these receptors in are brain and throughout our bodies evolved over time by random genetic mutations ? Perhaps the people that figure out that we have these receptors , have a higher rate of survival than people that don't think for themselves , are not curious , and let doctors and commercials do all their thinking for them ; perhaps they have no passion for life and are another way the genetic pool gets trimmed and weened ?
