Ro water and pro mix.

Hi there. Been in the game a while now but starting to really dial in my space for optimal yeilds and potency. Just bought a hydrologic stealth 150 ro unit and will be starting to use ro water. I have a mini grow store in my house. Multiple full lines of nutes many many additives in liquid and powder form. Etc etc. If i need it i get 2 If its on sale. I buy it. My question is. If im using ro water can i simply supplement the promix with glacial rock dust? Then i wouldn't have to add in cal mag supplement or at least much less? As a rule of thumb would i raise my ppm in the ro to 150ppm with calmag before i add any other nutes??

RO water has an affinity to absorb stuff. It doesn't like being pure. Once it hits the dirt. Its not RO anymore. It'll absorb minerals. That's why you shouldn't drink pure RO. It'll suck the minerals out of you.

If you apply that to dirt. It needs minerals (cal mag) before using on your soil. Otherwise, it could effect the mineral content of the soil.

I vote add Cal-Mag before you use it because I would. Then it'll be a safer mineral water. Not looking to absorb extra minerals.

Ya for sure i do understand the basics of ro but i guess what im trying to ask is should i use calmag or should i just add in some glacial rock dust into the soil ? Or both?

I am of the opinion that there are two ways to treat an inert medium like PM or coco. Either use it as it comes and treat it like any other DTW hydro, or use it as a base for creating an amended soil recipe.
I view it this way because although I have been growing for a long time, I am just now learning to grow in promix, and overcomplicating what seems to be a very simple process isn't going to be a benefit.
Also, I prefer to keep calmag as part of a nutrient schedule rather than an ammendment in hydro because once I am in flower I switch over to Epsom salt. Too much Calcium in flower has given me undesirable results.

Why the RO? Is your tap water that bad.

cut ur RO with 1/5th volume tap water to add back some "hardness" , it will make maintaining ph easier and yes calmag it aswell, 100-150ppm is good

Water measures 250-300ppm
Like i said im trying to really dial in my grow and get the BIGGEST possible yeild. Its just how i do. Try to get better and yeild more each time. Always learning. And i think by removing the lesser available calcium and other elements etc and adding a chelated readily avaliable 'version' of the elements would in turn cause less of a buildup of nutes in my soil thereby not causing ph swings and less stress on the plant making more energy for growing buds i do pretty well but and looking to improve.
My setup consists of gorilla shorty 5x5
2x 315cmh ushio and sunmaster bulbs 3100k with 4200k ushio for veg and 10000k illuminar bulbs for finish.
3 gal pots if running 12plants
5gal for 9 plants.
Promix bx
Emerald harvest nutrients full line
420cfm maxfan w/can 66

Ah see ive pretty much only grown with promix my friends trying to convert me to coco but im so used to promix. I dont like to add much to it but i was thinking the glacial rock dust would essentially provide the micro and macro nutrients id be taking out of the water with the ro machine. Its just a powder amendment that basically contains every element in trace amounts. I use it in teas and outdoor plants.
How much epsom salts do you use per gal?

I'm drinking pure R/O water for the last 12 years. Right into a bottle that's put in a fridge. I'm not dead yet.

I'm using Promix for the last 8 years. I don't use CalMag. My plants look real good.

I DO use Dyna-Gro nutrients. Grow and Foliage Pro in veg. I add Bloom after 2 weeks flip. They have all the micros I need. They look real good.

Don't listen to everything you see typed on here. If you use the right nutrient line you don't do anything else with Promix.

Thanks for the advice. I will err on the side of caution and only start to add in things if i start seeing a deficiency. I def take things on the internet with a large grain of salt lol. I dont have social media and this is the only thing ive ever signed up for but i do enjoy hearing others point of view maybe even just to see things without my 'blinders' on lol

Do you use a - for lack of the proper term - re mineralizer for your drinking water?
