seeds won't pop

how long after your taproots appear and you plant them in your medium does the seed pop out of the soil?
Some faster than others of course, but I like to see everyone above ground within a 2-3 days. If I'm doing a larger run, some outliers might take 5-7 days, but after a week if I don't see anything I call it and reclaim the dirt.

It's been two days for me. Will give it another 5 days before digging in to see what went wrong

Op after sterilising it and trying to germ it if it still dont pop dry it off throw it in the freezer for a month then try it again it dont work all the time but it can help break dormancy and i suspect thats whats happening to your seeds possibly they could have went dormant to preserve em self if there older it cant hurt to try

So I just recently started back up myself and got seeds from all over, decided to try and pop them almost 20 seeds later i had only got 2 to pop.
I was doing a soak and paper towel into a baggie no heat just baggie dark place and nothing they would crack open but never grow.
I was think surly this is just bad luck so i tried a different vender same shit nothing would pop. but i recently won the 420 fastbuds seeds and also failed to pop 1 first seed. at this point im thinking what am i doing wrong there is no way these seeds are duds.
so i decided to do it like nature i started 3 more not all at the same time but the last 3 in a row have popped for me Gdaddy purp from herbies G13 auto from herbies and 420 cherry cola. What did i do different? I just planted them right in the dirt/coco and a few days later they came up.
soo does that mean i shouldn't use RO water to pop seeds? or maybe what ever they bleached the paper towels with is killing the seeds? who knows but im direct soil for now on.

Nah just old seeds pop best in dirt for a number of reasons dont get me wrong paper towels is my go to for fresh modern stuff always has been however with landrace or old seeds straight into the medium works best ime and i doubt the tiny bit of bleach from the paper would kill it

Might I suggest float tech?
Put the seeds in water in a warm dark place They should float on top. Don't try to make them sink.
After a couple of days they will sprout tails. Gently plant them with the seed hull about a 1/4 inch below the surface and the tail down.
This is the best germination method I have tried.

I keep my seeds in the fridge.
When sowing, they go straight into FFOF/kitchen compost with perlite a couple seed's width deep.
Mist with spray bottle of tap water.
Pots go into Super Sprouter tray with heat mat and dome with Sunblaster T5.
Mist inside of dome.
Usually I re-mist soil and dome every other day to keep the humidity up and top inch or so of soil damp.
I typically have anywhere from 80% to 100% germ rate.
Some strains' seeds can take as long as a week to germ due to having a thick shell but this is rare.

i am not really a newbie. been doing this for 20 years. i never had this issue before.
bought a bunch of seeds from multiverse and from seeds here now.
popped 8, 1 of each strain 6 days ago. put them in papwer towels, then in a sealed baggie, then all the bags in a larger gallon baggie.
it was placed on a vivosun heating mat.
waited for two days, 5 or 6 had the small white bit coming out. i waited another day hoping more would pop and the white bit would get longer.

the white bit didn't get longer. i planted them all. been 3 days and nothing.

as a separate test, i did the method i have always used since i just got the vivosun mat. single seed, paper towel, between two plate on the stereo. i was 8 for 8 last round. this time i got the white bit to com out a tine amount. waited to the morning to plant, the white part is gone. i am not sure what to do.

this is super basic. nothing normal is working. is something wrong with the seeds?
i keep the doing the same thing thinking i will get the result i always got which was success.
also, now i keep doing the same thing and the outcome is the same , failure.

seed brands are sweet seeds, thseeds, la plata, dutch passion and ace.
I like to make sure everything is clean. Sterile as possible, are you using sink water or filtered water?
Also do you add hydrogen peroxide to water.
I think 1 to 8 parts, helps with seed schell and adds oxygen..

Heat pad have controller to set at 80 deg ?
If not pad runs hot 24/7

I will second this. I just blew 300 bucks worth of seeds using a seedling mat. Little bastards were refried beans when I was done with em. That sucked.

Yup what I was told by a great grower if seed is stubborn popping add a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide in spray bottle or shot glass with seed in. Also only to store in fridge in freezer risk condensation. When you take out of fridge give couple hours to acclimate like in nature like spring thaw.

I have never had to use anything else to pop my seeds yes sterilise em with peroxide first but assuming your tap waters ok you should be fine using that suppose it really depends where you are with that one.
