hi there! wasnt really sure where to post this haha but I was just wondering if any of you have expirience selling timber? I'm currently involved in a complicated tax issue and I'm looking into selling some trees and not sure of what is the best realistic way of selling it.

I'm not tok familliar with the business, worked logging a bitwhen iI was younger but wasnt really involved in the business end.

I have around 5.5 acres of trees in western maine, mostly pine/poplar, few maples some hemlocks, going to call a couple companies tomorrow to see when they could so some estimates.

also wondering about selling the timber standing as is. is this kind of thing usually handled by private buyers or by companies?

Watch out man, someone will probably buy it and sell the job to another company. A lot of scammers out there. Make sure they don't cut them off too short or you will be digging stumps out for a decade. They will lay everything down unless you tell them not to. I don't think you should cut them all down.

I was under the impression that if I sold them as standing timber, what would normally happen is the buyerresells to a company.

after iI get it appraised I'll have more of an idea if all of them need to go or not. the land is pretty choked out and over grown small trees getting blocked by big trees and such.

I'm not to familiar with it. I do have an uncle in the business. He bids jobs and does the work himself. Probably better off with a smaller outfit. I spent a few summers cutting pine post for some family. We cut some oaks and other hard wood to. We cut it ourselves and used a ton truck with stake bed on it. Used a couple tractors to skid and load them.
