Sizzling Dabs :(

Hello Everyone,
After smoking for 20 years, growing for 10,and dabbing for 5, I decided to read all I could on BHO extractions and purging techniques and pull that 1st extraction on some Frisian Duckfoot strain I grew. I packed my tube with 2oz of nugs (pretty much whole off the stems),blasted 2 power 5X cans, unpacked and dried nugs, grinded them up and repacked tube. Then I blasted one can of newport and collected all liquid in pyrex glass measuring cup (10cup size). I placed in warm water bath and after 30 min or so it had stopped bubbling and reduced. I then added 8 oz Everclear and put in freezer for 12 hours. After straining mix through unbleached coffee filter into mason jar, poured onto rectangular pyrex pan which was then placed into a 18qt roaster filled with water at 150F and at approx 2 inches above the water line. It took 2 and a half hours for the liquid to milk up, oil bubble, and evaporate. After scraping 10 razor blades of product, I collected some golden shatter and very tiny shards. I was happy until I dabbed it... because it had a sizzling sound. After some research it seems like water is the likely culprit. So my question is where did it come from and what could I change so that I don't repeat. Keep in mind it's for personal use, and like someone who brews their own beer or makes their own pizza dough from scratch, theres a certain pride in doing something the best way possible.I know everyone has their best way of doing it and I'm glad for any advice. In closing, could extracting outside in the middle of the night in winter pick up water from the air? sorry if that sounds stupid
Peace and keep smoking!

The moisture could be from humidity in the air, any steam coming off of water bath, or from the everclear. Was it 151 or 190 proof? Instead of winterizing could you get a vac pump and chamber? That would produce a tastier end product then winterized imho.

the compounds are hygroscopic..
they can form an azeotrope with moisture pulled from the air.
as you hypothesized. if this happens, and im not saying is what happened..it can be almost impossible to remove. as the (partial) definition of azeotrope is that the fractions cant be altered by distilation. some have suggested this causes perma goo until the compounds break down enough releasing the moisture

felt like talking...

just smoke it man, i would..wont hurt you

Thank you guys for responding
I did not vacuum purge.
It was 190 proof ever clear
I do heat the nail on the hot side (Quartz bucket) but wait 30 seconds to hit
I would love a vac pump and chamber and will read more about it!
Thanks so much and I will smoke it because it tastes really good.

Sizzle is typically water. If you put a dab into an open flame, it will go into a wild fire dance, instead of burning calmly.

Easiest to solve with vacuum and heat, but it you leave it out in a thin film long enough, the water should evaporate away.

Hello
I didn't realize there were 2 types of Everclear. How does the 150 proof vs 190 affect the final product? Just curios...

151 is about 75% alcohol 190 is around 95% the other percentage is water
So... If there's water in the everclear....wouldn't it evaporate along with alcohol after near 3 hour water bath? Or does having anything other than purest alcohol mess up the point of winterization

The alcohol mostly evaporates first, until the mixture reaches azeotropic balance at around 190 proof/95.6% (~4.4%), after which the water and alcohol evaporate at around the same rate.

If you heated the mixture to its boiling point, the boiling point will be below that of water and you won't be able to get it to the boiling point of water at atmospheric pressure, until the alcohol is gone.

Thanks for taking time to answer clearly.
This site seems to have way less jerks than other similar forums.
I appreciate that....
The thinner pieces of shatter stopped sizzling actually.
So I'm stoked on that,
I learned so much more by cruising the extracts forum this last week.
I love tips and and advice people share, even though sometimes their are contradictions in info.
Thanks roll it up!

Abraham Maslow, the father of Third Movement Humanistic Psychology, made the observation in his later years, that it is a mistake to forget that there is pathology in the populous.

Simply spoken, if you get enough brothers and sisters together, some will be pathological, soooooo the real question is how long they last on the various forums before seeking more fertile ground for exploiting their pathological needs. We continue to experience them passing through, and it is tribute to the team managing the forum, that they don't hang around.
