I don't have Facebook but I used a friends today to check out the FB market place. A fair amount of stuff and almost all is priced liked they are selling retail and new. Same with Kijiji. Sorry but your $1000 led you purchased 7 years ago is not worth what you think it is.

Sorry to hear about your store. That really sucks.
Cheers
CCG

On one hand yah having to go work for someone is gonna be an adjustment after such a long time but if next week works out, better to exit now while I have way more stock than what I owe to my suppliers than later when I might have run up too much credit with the suppliers and don't have the stock to cover the debt.

The next store that is about to also exit I think has been around 20 years and was pretty popular.

The days of the Hydro store are slipping past, To stay in the game a store has to offer more like a farm& garden store cant make a living selling just nutes an lights. The interweb changed all that I can get anything a Hydro store has 10-15% less dropped to my door in a couple days

Price depends on where you are, cheap Chinese stuff like tents and things sure as they don't charge you taxes as I believe there's a loop hole that a foreign company can sell on Amazon.ca and not have to charge you taxes if they just have a distribution house here but are located somewhere else.

Nutrients before legalization and before Prime free shipping were way cheaper on Amazon than they are atm. You can sell stuff at 10% over cost if the buyer pays the shipping.

You can't make money from small growers growing 4 plants, with the profit margins on hydro equipment locally, like BC coast where I can't sell a Gavita 1000DE for more than $385+tax ($35 profit). They buy once and come back evey few months vs 1 20 light grower comes back every week or so. Small growers were important when weed was $3K per LB as they made so much money from 1 light also that small grower was a 50/50 chance that in 3-5 crops would become a 10,20,100 light grower. In BC the small growers 1-4/6 lights disappeared for a while in the late 2000's because of hydro usage inspections starting around 2008 ish. That was the first true market collapse for hydro stores in BC. Lasted for about 6-8 months but back then rent on commercial properties was cheaper and most store owners had spare cash and weed still moved fast. Different story now.

You can make a hydro store work but 8 out of 10 would have to shut down.

Do you have legal rec there or just med? In the 90s price was 3600-4000 per here now its less than half that, Iam still paying my bills with 4000 watts in this flooded legal state just gotta grow top notch.

Legal here, you can get good grey market weed here for $500-600/lb and $400 if you shop around. Average price for grey ymarket weed is $90/oz delivered. AAA-AAAA is $900-1000. Even if you have killer weed unless you have a grey marker dispensary hook up you're stuck with it lol

Today I was thinking back to the mid 80's when in Toronto the Q107 radio station ran "Home Grown Hydroponics" ads almost hourly or more.
They had a catchy jingle to boot. " The only Way to grow" was part of the song. Well can you imagine the flock of folks who bought this whole idea. I did and so did plenty of others.
And bingo in Ontario it all started.
FUCK were they busy back then. I used to have to drive there from Kitchener Waterloo to buy stuff. The store was hopping. They had several locations then I believe. The "homegrown 6 pack" was the big deal then. Amazing how far we have come really. So sad in many ways too. For SO many decent folks just trying to make a buck. Or save some.
We’ve got Peterborough Hydroponics here and they still got that same jingle on the radio everyday lol.

Has anyone ever had anything off of FB marketplace shipped? How do you pay? Any hang-ups while doing so? It seems potentially shady.

I just looked, and there are so many lights. I may buy everyone on my list a grow setup for Christmas.

If its private then you'd have to pay who ever is selling it to ship to you.

With out big grey market growers and the way it is right now I don't see how you can continue as just a stand alone hydro store especially if this is you're sole income. I'm guessing some are gonna try to ride out the competition but if it takes a year or two to comeback and you're loosing $10-15K per month to keep it going that's just stupid unless its chump change to your.
