Some questions about 660/730/UV additions.

I am doing a 600w MH/HPS 4x4 coco tent grow, with a 6" centrifugal/carbon exhaust. 4xGG#4 + 2xWW photo. I have indoor/lights experience from 15 years ago, but the science has obviously improved since then, and yields are massively higher. Plants are currently at seedling stage, and im hoping to successfully do a LST / SCROG / cautious defoliate / extra red and UV / 13 on 11 off / emerson effect grow - of course plans might change depending on how the grow progresses :)

I have purchased a 54w 660nm LED (originally to boost a LED grow but ended up going HID). I intend to also get a 730nm and a UV, but have questions about how i use them. I have read loads about this on the interwebs, but of course much of what i read contradicts each other.

Basic question - with my setup, how do i use a 54w 660nm LED, a 730nm LED and CFL UV to boost yield and potency?

Extra questions

- for this setup how many watts of 730nm should i buy? and how many watts of UV ? (i am quite happy to buy individual digital timers for each light)

- interwebs say that 660nm is good to wake the plants up - is this real?

- for putting the plants to sleep, do i use both the 660 and 730 or just the 730? - how long after lights out do i run the reds?

- will using both the 660 and 730 during entire bud cycle boost yield? (as far as i can tell emerson works best with both? )

- are the 660/730 any use during veg cycle? - can i use them to put plants to sleep and veg on 19/5 ?

- interwebs say that replacing the 660 with a UV during last two weeks increases potency - is this true, and if so what wattage / schedule to use for a CFL UV ? (i realize that the UV is toxic to the plant and has to be very carefully managed, ideally i would use a wattage so low that it can be on for the entire day cycle)

I realize that this is jumping into the deep end for my first grow in 15 years:) - if i get into trouble i will just do 12/12 traditional, but i would like to know how to use the extra wavelengths to give me a better chance of helping rather than harming my grow :)

p.s - i have been pot free for the last 3 1/2 years - if i do successfully grow some 25%+ level weed, its gonna be a hell of a return to weedland !

thanks,

630 nm-700 nm will let your plants run photo systems 1 and 2 same time thus giving you the Emerson effect. 730nm -755nm is the off/on switch for putting the plants to sleep 15 minutes before and after light cycle should be plenty. this should allow you to run 14hrs on and 10 hrs off effect during flower if you wish to increase yield. I've been considering this exact upgrade. 2x 630nm to 1x 680nm is what one of the specs i came across. the off/on just needs to illuminate the room with 730-750nm to trigger the awake/sleep. otherwise your plants take 2 hrs to flip the switch them selves

I use UV only in the last 2 weeks before harvest
for about 3-4 hours per day ..only on my late winter grows

rest of the year I have all the UV I want

I also use a red warning light on the outside wall of the grow room

do note it is really bad for your eyes protection is required
in such a small place you can expect eye cancer as a minimum
within 2 years more so with led

lol good luck

Also great for keeping powdery mildew away

Thanks for the replies, so regarding the UV - in a 4x4x6 foot tent, how many watts of CFL UV should i use? (i have bought some UV400 rated sunglasses, but will still be very careful because you never know how truthful the rating is)

Best to be citing a journal, or submitting your work to one. Trust all bulbs ballasts light genetics and car salesmans the same.
