well after the first attempt with this system it failed,i got the plants to be 21/2 weeks old 6-8 inches tall and root rot took over, well i thought maybe i did some thing wrong i admit i made some common mistakes first run with this system over feeding and leting the rez get up to 75 degrees in temps,so i tossed the plants and started over again, i changed the nutes to fox farm got some sensizyme and hydroguard some cal-mag cause i use distilled water, well the first 2 1/2 weeks went great then all of a sudden bam same thing all over again,i am sure i made no mistakes this time around, rez temps stayin between 68-72 degrees ppm first feeding only at 350,2nd week put the ppm at 650, then went to 900 ppm and started 12/12 a week into that and i have the same problem all over again, wtf this system cant be a 6 plant system i have 3 airstones in it ,everytime a mass root happens in it they start with this lil brownish slime turning into a dark nitemare in a lil 48 hrs time so i have wasted 12 seeds i bought from nirvana not counted the $ i have flushed down the drain, really the money would be worth it if i grew some bud but no 2 1/2 weeks into it the roots get destroyed then the plants go too now IS THERE ANY ONE ELSE BESIDES ROSEMAN THAT HAS USED THIS SYSTEM WITH 6 PLANTS AND SUCCEDED WITH A SOG? what could i have done wrong here, kept ph between 5.3 and 5.9.....fuck this shit sucks any help please any advice would be nice i need a mentor hydro or soil,i just wanna grow some meds i have the big cfls from sh the 315 watt 20,000 lumens ones with,3 for veg and 3 bulbs for bloom, any insturctions will be great this is very frustrateing.....

Are your nutes recommending that you use that ppm, bc i use technaflora bc grow-bc boost-bc bloom-and they recommend that you start out at 800ppm for fresh clones or seedlings, then to 1300 for the rest of vegging, then 1575 for begining of flowering then 1700, 1900 for the rest of flowering. And it works great.

Couple of things and I think you had them covered.

#1. Use good water...RO preferably, DI is fine.

#2. Add more airstones than that simple little one they give with the kit.

#3. Stop light from entering the tank. This means getting covers...whether you buy em or make em...get those net's covered. No light = best to reservoir.

#4. Change reservoir every 7 days. Don't add nutes till at least the third set of leaves show...and then use 1/4 strength micro and 1/4 veg. Use HOT water to mix em...the nutes from SH are so grainy...you gotta work them hard to get them completely dissolved.

#5. Add a few tablespoons of H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) when you change out your resevoir. This will help kill any bio-growth happening, as well as add oxygen. Watch your ph tho!!! When I start my res is around 5.5-5.75....it will go up from there, I have never added ph up or down.

What else can I add?

The drain kit from SH sucks rear...get a valve like the ones they use to dispense water in 5 gallon plastic jugs or a water cooler. My "drain kit" decided to start blowing out after a change one day. It's a VERY cheap valve.

Keep the lights close...within 3 inches. The bushy growth on mine is sick.

Keep good ventilation...have a mini fan blowing on the plants at all times to strengthen them.

I've had my temps in my grow area up to 95....and that was the reservoir too!!! Growth stopped for a day, but no huge outbreak of algae or any other crap and no bad stress to the plants except some curling of the fringes on the leaves.

Other than all that...the only thing I could say is get all that stuff cleaned before you try again. I personally would soak it in 3% H2O2 till I was sure all of it was clean...then rinse and go for it.

yeah i had all that covered this is the 2nd time try with this system and i got the same results first time i went as far as trying to dip the plant roots into a heavy h2o2 and water solution, they went from having 100 roots to maybe 5 lil roots.i admit first time around i made some common newbie mistakes, and i thought maybe that had something to do with it.this time around i made no mistakes kept res 68-72 maybe once hit 75,temps in room 75 high when lights go out 10 degrees cooler.this time i didnt fool with the h2o2 i read somewhere it would break down enzymes or something,u have done a full 6 plant grow with this system?it seems alot of people have the same problem with this system as i do,for me once they hit 2-2 1/2 weeks they get this,oh well i am going to buy some good soil and try that now atleast i can still use the lights!!!!

I'm sorry to hear it's not working out for you, I have had zero problems so far with the SH set up. Granted, I'm not expecting some miracle grow as I know the limitations of this system. It's perfect for what I have available to grow with.

I would love to post some pics but I have no idea how to do it safely. I started from seed in the rockwool on September 11, 2007 and now my plants are getting 10-12". One I sprouted a full week later so it's struggling to catch up.

I used some seeds I got from some killer local weed we scored on Maui. Very stony....uplifting, very mellow. Leaves look thick like an indica. I have 3 of these plants and they dominate the other 2. I'm thinking of calling them the "Angry Samoans".

The other two....one is from my wife's brother Kenny. So we are calling that one "Special K" hahaha too funny on so many levels.

The last one is actually from a pack of seeds I purchased. It's a White Widow and it was the one sprouted a week later. It's stretching a bit to keep up with the others. but I'm making sure it gets it's fair share of light.

Someone let know how to post safely please.

Hey shortybighead,

Did you post on my journal about this? Friend, I recommend you take the advice of many here and experts like nongreenthumb and try the simple, proven method of growing in rockwool with nutes. Proven success!

I'm sure you've seen my roots when I saved them from the system. Had the same brown crap on them. The system sucks period, throw it out and keep the lights. I also got stuck with their crap water meter which I've returned, but am still waiting for a refund they claim takes a few weeks.

I am now on my third grow with this system and I haven't had any problems, the most I've had was 3 plants in at any one time, and I have a few friends using this system (we built them ourselves and only ordered a few things through SH like net pots and nutes which have worked fine for us) my first grow I got about 4 ounces, my second I got just under a pound, 14.5 ounces, and this third is going great. haven't had any problems, I've heard a few ppl have *shrugz* I dunno.

hey ..i am using sh bubbleponics and am in my second week from seed. I have had to add ph down and right now the res is at 6.7...kinda high. Also i seem to have some green stuff on the bottem of my res and some white residue at the water line . I have been using well water but i am going to get some better RO water. Is there anything else i can do?
