Even though this is kind of about mccarthy, it isn't about either party specifically.

The histrionics coming from beijing and moscow are approaching Tourette's level...
Dignitaries from any country can speak to dignitaries from any other country, and you don't have any control over it.
Seeing every meeting as a direct threat is paranoid, to say the least. Obsessing over a small territory that has no interest in being integrated into your homogeneity is also not a particularly healthy behavior.
The world is offering you practically unlimited trade opportunities, if you would just quit trying the juvenile "faustian bargain" shit. The only people even slightly fooled by your belt and road initiative are those poor enough to need it as a way out.
Sometimes a hand held out doesn't have a knife up it's sleeve, it's just a hand held out.

"Huawei has continuously stressed it is independent from the Chinese state. "Huawei is a commercial operation," a spokesperson said. Asked whether the company had a policy to check which of its staff are members of the Chinese Communist Party, the spokesperson said: "We don’t ask about or interfere with employees’ political or religious beliefs. We treat every employee the same regardless of their race, gender, social status, disability, religion or anything else."

One key concern brought up by Western security authorities in past years is that Huawei as a China-headquartered company is subject to Beijing's 2017 National Intelligence Law, which requires companies to "support, assist, and cooperate with national intelligence efforts" as well as "protect national intelligence work secrets they are aware of."

Asked how it handles legal requests from the Chinese government to hand over data, the spokesperson referred to the company's frequently asked questions page on the matter, which states: "Huawei has never received such a request and we would categorically refuse to comply if we did. Huawei is an independent company that works only to serve its customers. We would never compromise or harm any country, organization, or individual, especially when it comes to cybersecurity and user privacy protection."

I'd like to believe them...but i do not. One does not do business in a communist run country and "categorically refuse to comply" with their demands.
At the very least, they have full access to any and all information in the companies data, in ALL companies data, that operate from chinese territory.
I may have misunderstood when i read the original article about it, but as i recall, they don't have to ask, they can just take what they want, and don't even have to inform the companies that they are accessing or manipulating their data

It would still fall under GOP Leadership thread as he's meeting Taiwan as an American Speaker of The House.

Caveat- they know each other and is a personal visit like meeting for lunch.

Can't lie, I think the US government does similar. We don't have a great history. Sounds like China has a patriot act-esque counterpart.

What if China said they are protecting their freedom from evil doers that hate freedom.

well well well … look who seems to have broken the law in plain sight.

My question is why did it take over ten years for anyone to discover this?
Are there not watchdogs for these people's behavior? There sure as shit should be, if there aren't.
The office of Federal Fucking around and Finding out....
It is obvious that these people cannot be trusted to do what their jobs require them to do without some kind of oversight.

That man fired several inspectors-general iirc.

It will be interesting to see if we have a working mechanism for visiting consequence on this well-protected criminal.

When Canada arrested the owner's daughter, he called up Xi and they held two Canadians as hostage in a shit prison, while she lived in a mansion in BC on bail. They even threatened them with the death penalty at one point, yer dealing with a criminal regime, no different than the one in Russia, except they appear more competent. We can do business with them but never become dependent economically on them, hence the chip foundries, battery and chemical plants along with new mines and on shoring. China's neighbors, the pacific tigers are gonna do quite well out of this as business move from China to other cheap labor markets.

I’m hoping The Prosecutor is developing something against Ginni.

I'm hoping the democrats win big in 24 and hold impeachment investigations with public hearings where they put certain justices on the hot seat and the FBI completes the vetting of others. Maybe Jack will go after her, but I doubt it, she is more a crazy fanatic and useful idiot for others than a criminal. I think Jack will have lots of work in congress, I have a great faith in desperate rats.

Cabinet postion: OOFFAAFO.

Who the hell let China join the world market in the first place?
"Oh, okay, come on in with your totalitarian self, we don't mind. Child labor? Minimum wages?
Labor and industries insurance? Nah, you don't have to do any of that. Just come on in, you'll love it."
Who says communism and capitalism can't co-exist.

And in the usa freakin' corps made out, and workers in USA and China got screwed. Not bad if your
labor costs amount to a bowl of rice for a 12 hour day, corporations can really rake in the profits.
Foxconn, Google, et al, hell they love commies, good bux in communism these days. AND the GOPs,
remember, tell us now we gotta support Putin's commie regime. Oh yeah, it's not too upside down.

All that MONEY! That big house and a fat corporate check are the answer, along with bribes, lobbying and a desire by some to civilize the heathen.

those same corporations you're talking about are the ones who let china get competitive in the world financial markets.
They outsourced all those jobs, they had to build facilities in china, they had no oversight, and chinese law allows child labor....Of course, this wasn't a huge secret, and consumers just kept buying the shit anyway, so you can add some culpability there...but that opened the door for those same corporations to start buying cheaply made substandard shit from them, and gave the chinese opportunities to blatantly steal technology and hardware designs...and to insert agents into American research facilities, both industrial and educational.

can you imagine what Amazon would look like if they eliminated the Chinese knockoffs?

Some of the brand names are grim comedy. I recently purchased an IR thermometer branded AHOSOUTLY. :joint:
