The Old school Oaxacan

Well Boy's them days are gone.. However once and only once in a small town in NJ. My best friend gave me a bag.. Well sold me an OZ of Mexican gold.. A term that was thrown around a lot back in the day.. However this weed was gold and glissen in the light. It was still steamy but only 1 or 2 seeds. Kind of look liked yellow dr grinspoon strain compressed into a brink then broken up. Not the brown seedy shit that smelled like a musty basement that was the normal Mex of that time in my area.. Now not as strong as today's weed but maybe it was just being young or it was the late 70s However that shit made you laugh mad crazy hard, harder then LSD of Mushroom's but them days are gone.. However twice I have came close with some of the older Holland seeds folks gear with Skunk 1 sativa Phenos

Those days are gone but the highs remain if you look deep enough and get lucky. The Michoacan from Snow and the better Mexican I had in '74 are identical. Period. The Zapotec which is Colombian Gold x Oaxacan is up there with the best of the old lines. One pheno of it anyways. Panama Red by Snow is another that delivers with the right pheno.

Sure youth played a part in our fond memories but really, there was a different herb running around then. It can be replicated for the most part though. I have done so. Breeding for high thc, looks, short flower time, yield, has resulted in a muddled mess of a high. The most important thing should be the high, and a high that leaves you fulfilled.

Hello Yesum, I've been researching landrace / heirloom Mexican strains, thank you for contributing your knowledge, I've learned a lot from your posts. I've seen you comment on a lot of the landrace threads, I wanted to ask for your advice if it's possible.

Any specific landrace Mexican strain that you'd recommend that is both uplifting and happy, but also clear-headed and doesn't cause paranoia / isn't too trippy? I have some Acapulco Gold from Mass Medical I'm hoping to grow this summer, I've heard the Oaxacan is really good (but trippy)... I think the Guerrero or Michoacan have the traits I'm looking for?

I grow outdoors in Southern California, but have friends I've visited in the mountains in Jalisco / Colima, and I've talked with them about possibly growing it in the mountains there.

Just wondering about the differences between all the heirloom Mexican sativas.

I have not had any Mexican lately that is too trippy or negative. A good pheno will be good medicine for your mind. Snowhigh many varieties, Sinaloa from ACE, Cryptic Labs Oaxacan or Guerrero, Swami Guerrero, there are quite a few and none were bad.

I have coming some seeds from Oaxacan Seed Corporation. These are among the most anticipated of my seeds. Last batch that I got were dead and would not germinate, so hoping these go better. The heat of being in customs for a month killed them I think.

The Zapotec is on hold right now. I started to get some wiped out feelings with it if I smoked very much. Like a hybrid type thing where I felt wasted after the first 30 minutes of high. I want a high that leaves me feeling clean no matter how much I smoke. That first 30 minutes is great though.

Sucks to hear about the Zapotec, sounds like it has solid genetics, Oaxaca Gold and Columbian Gold... any reason you think it makes you feel like that?

I'm also looking for a "clean" high... let me know if you find it.

That's actually why I was interested in the Highland Guerrero, it's description makes it out to be like that.

If you're open to try more commercial strains, I would highly recommend "Candy Jack" or even "Galactic Jack", they are Jack Herer crosses that might be up your alley.

Candy Jack I did feel pretty clear headed the whole time, Galactic Jack too.

Oaxaca Gold and Columbian Gold... any reason you think it makes you feel like that? Not sure. Original Haze is clean for sure. They have some seeds of it somewhere now if you search. Icmag I think had the link. Colombian Gold is clean the early version. Later versions got more indica in feel but not much.

I just smoked the top of a Oaxaca Melon male, and got a really fun high off it. Pretty clean, maybe a bit of a comedown after, but nothing bad. Hope the females when finished are better. That was from Snowhigh. If you watch the dose then none of the strains I mentioned are a burnout or disabling.

The Oaxacan along with many of the OLD Mexican lines were not tiring. Those people had to do physical work most days and would smoke and work at the same time. https://www.bcbuddepot.com/marijuana-seeds/limited-edition/cc-original-haze The later Flying Dutchman version was crossed with some indica, avoid it.

I'm on the haze train... I got Todd's, MM's repro, THH, and the one in the link you provided- I'm assuming "CC" is for Cultivators Choice, and that it comes from Skunkman, but I don't know sometimes with bcbd. I've only grown Todd's so far, and it does seem hazy... I still haven't smoked any because it isn't done yet, but the smells and looks seem right. Next year I'll get to the others, along with some Colombian Red I got from Snow... I'm really excited for those... Snow's got the best landrace and heirlooms I think... better than some others. His Panama Red was absolutely beautiful in appearance, odor and effect.

By MM do you mean Mass Medicinals? I remember him mentioning Old Timers Haze from ACE seeds, what do you think of that haze?

Also, how was the effect of the Panama Red for you? I was thinking of picking some up from Snow

No, not Mass Medicinal ;). ^. The haze I'm growing now is from Todd McCormick/Authentic Genetics, and I have no doubt it is legit. It is also not consistent, just like people say. One is similar to the piff smell, but not as loud, and is a beast in structure, the other 3 I have going range in smell from fruity mango, a smell that is almost identical to Panama Red, and one that is the more hazy, woody and nutty incense, combined with a medicinal jet fuel, astringent carrot smell. I have tried a sample of that last one, and it is haze... not "the one", but it is right in effect... high energy, introspective and easy to get caught up in thoughts, long lasting high.

Panama Red from Snow was great. it was the 2016 batch, but not the "sweet berry" version. There was some real good old-school effects... it was very thought provoking and pretty much all head., some had some visual distortion, all long lasting, great smell and taste... I would buy it again. Once you get used to those older sativas, it really does make some of the more hyped newer strains seem like watered down bitch-weed. Almost like the difference between Stone brewery double ipa, vs Budweiser.
