Top Dressing

When top dressing your soil how long does it take the soil to breakdown and absorb the nutrients from the top dressing into the plant's roots? ( the ph is 6.4)

Is there a rule of thumb for this, or does it depend on the plant itself?

It depends. Different amendments take different amounts of time to break down. Also the more active the soil is, the faster it will become available. You want to top dress before the plants actually need it though.

so maybe do a nitrogen and potassium rich top dressing every 2 weeks in Veg , then in Flower top dress every 2 weeks with more Phosphorus and Potassium and less nitrogen. that way there is a 2 week window for the nutrients to break down and to be absorbed into the roots. and if a nutrient deficiency does happen. make a tea to correct the deficiency. does all of that sound like a solid plan or am i missing something?

That sounds good. Just be careful you don't overdo it with the top dressing. I'd start with smaller amounts, until I see how the plants respond to the different inputs. You can always add more.
