Topdress with straw?

Any of yall use straw or hay to keep the top layer of soil from becoming too dry too fast? looking for a recommendation on a brand

Doesn’t matter much what brand you use. I try to source straw from farm stands around this time of year but home stores and garden centers usually carry it. Tractor supply has it; lotsa folks use it for planting grass or decoration. Very good for top layer moisture retention; I like to sprinkle it w/diatomaceous earth like powdered sugar on French toast. Keeps gnats away.
