Topping?

The reason I'm asking is I have 5 started.

2 are different varieties started from Seed.

3 are Clones from another variety.

1 clone is not doing well I'm giving it time.

My game plan is to Top the ones from Seed. Done did. Top the Clones once they are big enough. I might have to Top the ones started from Seed two more times at least.

I've always found a single topping does a good job of evening out canopy. These weren't screened or trained, bar the bottom pic which had a few lower branches pull outwards.

But then again, none of those vegged for longer than three or so weeks. Could be different with a longer veg..

I agree with nope that’s the way to go especially if using netting for supports and training I top atleast three times after that things just get to crazy for me and I lose track of shit

I'll top once, don't like doing it more than that because it shocks/slows growth for a while. After that I LST if needed, but even then tying down the two branches that come from the topping once is plenty, I end up with maybe 8 or so tops with colas

I bend it over, pin it and then let the side shoots grow out. I then top all of the side shoots, then maybe top again. I end up with a good 16 heads on one plant. That way I can thin out to the best ones and use the other for clones, if I want to. I want to end up with 8-10 colas per plant.

I top at the 7th or 8th node once to get 14 or 16 colas. If I wasn't running 12/12 from birth at the moment I wouldn't mind topping above the 4th, removing the bottom node and the topping each branch to see how the structure differs from then on but I'm impatient lol. Ive never vegged a photoperiod indoors, have only ran autos and photos 12/12 from seed so I've never had the chance to mess around as I top when pre flowers appear.

The only issue I have topping early (4th or 5th node) is I get a 10" main stem with 3 foot branches that struggle to support themselves. If I grow it out to 9-10 nodes (usually around day 25ish) and then top back three nodes I find I get a more supportive main stem and the sides don't stretch 2.5 feet.
