Trying to keep the hay away.

Hi all

I thought i would document my drying process to help others with this hay issue.

Fairly new grower, just chopped second crop on friday. Ive been constantly looking up advice on how to not get the hay smell. Last crop about half of it had a slight hay smell. I chalked it up to early harvest and fan blowing on the plants. I had a close friend just crop two weeks ago on the day of the chop i was super impressed, but a few days later it turned to straight up hay.

I was dreading chopping my own. Fast forward to today i chopped on friday. Hung the whole plant upside down. Constantly checking to see if the hay will come. Lights are off. Rh is around 55-60. Gonna dry em out as slow as possible. Will update as days go by. Wish me luck

Just embrace the hay. Kidding, sounds weird. Hay is a plant and weed is a plant so I suppose there would be some similarity. Maybe there's a fungus on them that you can't see. Why would your friend's also be hay-like though, unless you both have the same fungus or whatever it is? I would take as much leaf off as possible before hanging them. Looks like there's some on there.

Friends crop turned to hay cause they dried it too quick im guessing. Only 3 days. For my plants i took off most fan leaves, but some plants i did leave all leaves on just to see. Last time my crop smelled like hay already at this stage. Just went to check and so far so good. Still smelling great.

It has been 8 days and just brought some down off the rack. Still smells great. No loss of smell that i can tell. I honestly could've let em go longer but i need the room pretty bad. All in all i think its a successful dry, but will wait till after cure to be sure.

Process i used was
-while plant is alive take off as many fan leaves as you can. Mostly all the big ones. I leave the ones stuck way in the buds because i find sometimes i rip apart the buds.
- once stripped i cut the whole plant down and hang upside down on a wire.
- i have a dehumidifier but only turned on at night when humidity gets up to 70+. But room was kept around 55-65 and 17ish degrees celsius.
-I left them to hang in the dark until some of the popcorns can be plucked off clean, which was today. 8 days total. Pretty sure tomorrow the rest of them will be done.

Currently drying in my grow room which has air in and air out. 1 fan blowing air up near the ceiling to get air movement.

And now happy to announce there is no hay.
Hope this helps someone cause i had a hell of a time finding info on the hay smell.
