Underfilling fabric pot?

So I have an indoor tent which is 6.5' tall. It's hard to fit everything in vertically in my tent so i was thinking I would get a 20 gal fabric pot (which is really wide) and only fill ~7 gal of it.

this way my pot would be quite short and I would gain 6-12" of vertical space compared to 5 gal buckets.
I haven't seen anyone do this before and I was wondering if there was a reason not to underfill the fabric buckets.

If it matters I plan to make this a living soil setup and leave it there forever :P

I’ve seen guys cut them off. I wouldn’t I under fill it and leave it. Maybe cut it to the size you want it.

Roots will grow straight down then spread out. Underfilling a pot may result in a root bound plant if the soil is too shallow. With the correct training (topping, LST, etc) you can control the height of your crop without sacrificing root zone area

From what I've read, canna roots tend to stay in the top 12" of the soil. That's why you see 200 gallon fabric pots the same height as a 5 gallon.

I haven't seen anyone do this before and I was wondering if there was a reason not to underfill the fabric buckets.

If it matters I plan to make this a living soil setup and leave it there forever :P

15 gallons of soil is like the minimum for living soil.
